looking for a head+cab, what to get?

He hasn't really said what he wants his amp is for.

Thor buddy,he says he plays in his bro's band and he want clean and loud amp.

I think u miss something over here. Not gargamel.

For home or outside.

Is he going to drag his amp out every jam session?

How loud is loud? A 15W can be awfully loud to me.

15watt

I think gjkung is someone who often do gigs outside or has his own studio.
I wonder if the 15watts amp can compete with a hard beater drummer.

I have never seen him. Maybe you have. Good for you if you have - you can make a better recommendation to him.

Btw, a Marshall 18W alone is sufficient for a pub gig already. In a band situation, with bassist and drummer and accompanying guitarist.

I wouldn't want to go further discussing. If you can help him and recommend him something, or give him some good advice, that'll help.

Cheers
Raymond

i also have karaoke indulging neighbours here, once they start, i'll follow suit so if others have to pinpoint who's to balme for the noise, it'll be difficult.

many people tend to overlook non-tube heads when they shop for a stacked unit. do well to try them out as many of them sound organic these days, some are giving the tube counterparts a run for the $$$.

heh... strategy sial, subby..

+1 to the SS half-stacks, i really like the clean as well as the crunch/metal/blues tones i can get from my Peavey Special 212 (ok it's not really a halfstack i.e. head + 2x12, but it comes close).

I do not know him in person. :D

So now u can go

lol guys, thanks for the interest.

I think I didn't make it clear, I play with my bro's concert band. if you've read my post in the gigs and concert forums last time, you'd know that I play beside an entire orchestra of about 80++ people with trumpets and tubas. I play mainly pop, fusion or funk pieces for them, but I still do need good distortion for my own use.

As to where I play, I plan to keep this amp I'm trying to get at home and only lug it to the rehearsal spot when required. At around 1 or 2 months to the concert, I'd bring it there and leave it there for a the time being.

I don't plan to crank it up at home, maybe during weekends or holidays since that's the only time i can crank anything up.

you guys suggested a lot, I'd take some time to research on all the amps mentioned. Thanks so far.

anyway if your micing it up, 15 to 30 watter will prolly suffice. plus if your going to bring it around a 30 watt combo would be much easier to transport than say a head and a 4 x 12 cab. unless your not micing it up thn well no choice then. a stack it is =)

i really wonder how a normal thread asking abt opinions for amps can get to asking people to go fish themselves..some of you ought to learn to take responses and comments people make and not get worked up..just leave comments for gjkung and he'll think abt it himself...everyone has the right to give comments and recommendations..different people like different amps..to some people..15W is enough..some "require" 100W or more to soothen their ears..so..just leave your comments that is within his budget range/requirements and let him decide himself..

DjThugs: thanks for bringing us back to the topic. is it just me or has shred been watching this thread but not posting, until he found a reason to tell someone to take cover or say that "good advice goes unheard". thank you so much.

ANYWAY

this is getting more complex, now people are telling me to mic a small amp. The reason why i'm looking for a stack is because I'm playing with an orchestra sized band, and if I'd be the only one miking up if I am miking. It'd be preferred to have a sound coming from a stack inside the band so we sound like 1 band rather than have it miked up and sound like I'm not 'with" the band.

If I wanted a micced sound, I'd rather use my podxt live direct to PA. Plus, i'm playing at the Esplanade(similar venues in the future), so the acoustics should aid my sound projection a little.

I hope you guys get what I mean.

Can someone tell me a little more insider infor about the Marshall AVT150HX? If it's good, then I'd head down to Davis this weekend to try it.

Its you.

Good advice does go unheard. Save a bit more, get something better for the long run. Now you say, Marshal AVT150? For funk & fusion?

If the pod irks you so much, get an analog rig, use tech21 stuff and go thru the PA. Or lug around a Powerengine if you need to.
