Its prob the guitar setup. Even a well setup cheap guitar will sustain pretty okay. And it could be your pup height, powersuond pups aren't weak pups, they sound like crap but not weak.
You'll be better off researching and learning for the next few months, then to buy some big ass amp only to realise it doesn't cut it.
