looking for a head+cab, what to get?

I'm looking to get an amp upgrade, not so soon though.

Budget: <$2000
Genre: Backing for pop/fusion/funk stuff(no leads, and I hardly play anything that requires sparkling cleans), but I play metal and rock mainly on my own.
Band size: around 80 people, concert band.
Current sound gear, Podxt Live, 15 watt peavey practice amp.
Other info: Loud enough to play alongside the band without miking(the band will be miked as a whole, part of most stage arrangements), I don't want the sound to be "over" the band. I'm not interested in miking a small amp, if that's the case I'd rather plug my Pod direct through PA

thanks in advance. (edited to provide more details)

the randall rg75? just a thot. played it once and was quite impressed with the sounds. but admittedly a bit more 'metal' oriented.

hey i use toneblaster 25R and its a good practice amp! suitable for small time gig too

usually v clean amps dont do metal distortion without ur pedals...

So u still need to spend $ to buy gd pedals... But satch did say if u use alot of pedals, get a gd clean amp n u retain the integrity of the pedal.

thanks for the recommendation, I'd go look at the randall. any idea how much it cost?

Gr3y, does the toneblaster get noisy as it reaches high volumes? Cuz I've read a lot stuff about that negative side. And how clean can it go?

about the pedals, yeah I know. It's hard to find an amp that can do both sides of the tonal range. Still, I'd rather get a big distortion sound and get less-than-sparkling cleans than to go for cleans without gain. I'm not a clean player, not really that picky when it comes to clean tones.

i own the ibanez 25R also. seriously ibanez isnt known for amps, but this amp is rather cheap and not bad for practise too. the clean is alright, nothign good, but i think the overdrive sux. doesnt matter to me because i use pedals. but at high volumes it tends to get quite noisy. but then again it's quite powerful because i play at 9 o clock in my room and it's still quite loud

wait... u have a xt live... i dont think u should be looking at normal amps...
u might wanna consider a power amp or keyboard amp if u use ur xt modelling a lot...

heya, think the randall costs about $1k. with the xt live, you might consider getting a crate powerblock and a 2 x 12 cab...juz a suggestion. cheeers

shred, I do realise that. which is why i said I am looking for a combo too. But of course, the budget is flexible.

and Lifehouse wrote that while I was replying to the post, so i didn't see it. Don't assume I'm not listening :(

About my xt live, something is really wrong with the modelling. Too much digital buzzing, full of noise, maybe it's me.

What I need really, is just bigger sound. The tone is more important than the gain, if you get what I mean. Gain I can get by driving from pedal, but I don't want the sound to be shaped by the pedal. I need more articulation and bigger chugs. Me playing through my pedal and into a keyboard cab just doesn't solve it, I'd rather use the PA.

Any idea now?

ChickMagnet: back down on gain, off goes the chug, off goes the sustain. The buzzing and noise isn't because of gain, it's the charateristic tone of the podxt's distortion models. Blackmoo suggested i take out some of the extreme-highs on the eq, it helped but since then something other than noise is gone too.

strats: I have problem finding it online.

Lifehouse: mind telling me more about the trademark PE? nothing much online except advertisement.

everyone: try to pretend my xt live doesn't do amp modelling. Cuz I'm not planning to depend on it for the main gain.

dun back off so much la, use juz the right amount, solo then boost with more gain, pod can save patches rite, yea eqing helps too, but sloppy picking for chugging doesnt

of course I won't back of so much. I've been through all levels of gain, I've had it for 1/2 year and know how to work it. The tone isn't terrible, but when you put it through a keyboard amp and listen, it just lacks power and sounds all broken up. It sounds like an amplified pedal tone, not a big amp tone.

The Trademark looks promising.
