Local Musicians That Do Not Support Others

Well.. He will not be the only one with such views.. And it is sad..
While it is right to think that supporting music that is NICE is a priority, why not help give local bands a push? I myself have my favourites..
Peepshow, Allura, Fishtank, The Great Spy Experiment, bla bla bla bla bla! Lol..
Too many great bands out there lah.. I always seem to leave each gig with a sense of happiness, with always the SAME thought: "local bands are seriously improving!!!" ;)

Actually we shouldn't be that hard on the standard of the bands here too

Seriously, we tend to think of the UK and US as having tons of great bands, which is true, but it's also true they have a higher density of population and club circuits and more touring opportunities.

But while there are a greater number of high quality bands from the UK and US, there are also a higher number of totally crap bands that as just as crappy as some of the bands here too - if not worse! It's just that we never get to hear or see of them because they die out within their own scene even before they cross continents.

So to say we need to improve as a collective, yes it's true. But we should improve towards a direction that we can call uniquely our own and not necessarily strive to be 'just like the Brits or Americans'.

i agree...its all about the law of large numbers. for every good band that arises, there are bound to be plenty more that suck and die out. and as mentioned, they die out before they reach us so we don't get to hear their crap anyway, making it an illusion that they only produce quality bands. but i must agree with some people here, the local music scene is really improving, or at least in the rock and indie genre. :)

lol

to the person u communicated with...

"u sucks badly...reli reli sucks..." says boon.

doesnt mean u win comp or best wateva or wateva n wateva...tat dun make u a music critic or a rockstar...
and ya... by playing racer x's songs etc dun make u paul gilbert.

yah, want to support, but cannot blindly support.

please be honest and only support that which you believe in. this is the only way we can make real progress.

i believe there are some things each one of us is passionate about. be it a particular genre, instrument, in performance, or education and so on.

also, if ur in the ship with us, please roll up your sleeves and help put in the work.

there are many of us who don't have the strength to talk after all that rowing.

but, doubters will always be doubters. if we are too weak, too bad we sink.

one day, we will be fine. it is not yet that day.

juz tell that dude, i dint win anything, i dint pwn anything, but i cfm look better than u even if i'm stark naked and fact is, u can't change the latter... (surgery maybe?)

i love being sucked....hehehehe..but back to TS topic..the local pros here are very humble people..let's take mr Paul D. for example..nice and humble guy..

there is a Malay saying.." be like the padi..more grain..more it bow"..or something like dat..

i tink all this nit picking/flaming/quoting to argue/not being nice is giving soft a bad name

remb

Sound
Of
Friends
Together

my 2 cents worth

But it doesn't mean
Sound
Of
Friends
Happy
Together :)

The sound can be that of a bottle being smashed over the head! Or a group of people farting together!

Hee hee I'm just kidding :)

What I'm trying to say is, ignoring it doesn't make it go away. Better to bring it into light and address it. Discussing only positive things all the time doesn't make something positively better. It only makes us more delusional.

WTF!?! hahahhahaha. different story already.

yeah seriously, i think size of Singapore may be some kinda hindrance. like someone said, we think that other countries have come out with great band and thats because the crappy bands die out even before they reach our ears and with every great band, there are many others which suck. just like our country, only that with such a small population and working with ratio, its most likely that we can't come with as many bands as other countries.

hmmm i mean as a personal opinion i might have to agree with silverstone, but how he put it shows the level of maturity lah. Quite low naw mean. Well, levan, one thing local musicians should learn is ofcourse to ignore such critics. You love what you do, so just do it. Who gives a F*ck about what other people think. You wanna do covers for the rest of your life, do it. You wanna dance like britney spears on youtube, do it. Nike's slogan is good. JUST DO IT!

silverstone sucks a lot hahax.. At least you should keep your counsel to yourself or express it in a more constructive way.. I bet Bad Obsession gonna hunt you down~!! (Hopefully LoL)
30th Aug--SBC'08 winner showcase.. *scape
Hahax.. shouldn.. enrage anyone before your show man.. poor thing.. I shall take my first aid kit there just in case ^,^"

personal opinions are alright, but everyone has his/her own tastes right? opinions are better left to oneself if u are part of the competition, if not it might only make u look like a sore loser. i'm sure bad obsession does have their fair share of supporters. we don't really have a right to say they make noise instead of music. it's all opinion.

btw...jeremyrozario, ur nick sounds familiar. which sec school were u from?

I do not agree with the kind of attitude Silvertone13/Krist has, but in the same breath, I do not see how subjecting him to a kangaroo court like in this thread is any different in approach.

So some people have to learn to be constructive while others have to learn that there's something called personal tastes and views. So be it.

Its good to talk about something like this; because it reminds us that we ALL can be jack asses. It is not so that we can have a target board to throw darts at.

The little scene we have in this frog pond is already polarized enough when it doesn’t have to be. No need for more discord.

Della Madre(Under 17 category winners)

Or

Juxtapose(18 & above)

Just my personal, perhaps even biased opinion, I don't think it's Juxtapose, they seem a little too old(and mature as a result of their age) to be flaming musicians on youtube and speaking in LOL and txtspeak.

yo. the poster of the youtube is my friend. he didnt won sg band challenge la lol! he got you all scammed! haha

scammed

hi everyone. silvertone13's good friend here. just fyi, the part where he claimed he won singapore band challenge 2008 is fake. he told me he was playing all the while. so anyways the commotion should end somewhere man. or all participants and winner of singapore band challenge 2008 will be accused wrongly.

cheers Taiji
