Local Musicians That Do Not Support Others

roninriot, u posted something, so i replied back and my queries were addressed to u.

you replied back, replies were fair enough so thats great.

so end of topic. i dun have a blog or anything.

so why u type those stuff, i dun know and frankly, it was unnecessary.

so for u to click on the 'new posts' function to see my reply so that u can say something nasty to me of all pple, is very unnecessary.

Jeepers, im still waiting for the PM to arrive.

I don't understand what you are trying to say man. I'm sorry. I can barely make out the meaning.
Awww, did you feel targeted by my 'nastiness'? If that's the case, don't ask me the questions when you can't handle the response.

Sorry to hurt your feelings ok? (pat pat)

But seriously,
being a writer is a thankless job just like many many jobs in the scene. The soundmen, the forum moderators, the gig organizers - all mostly thankless jobs. That would be fine except that we have to deal with prejudiced ill-informed people like you who make our job that much harder.

Ok uhm since the air's cleared a bit.. a -bit-..
aiyah stop fighting k. Debates and arguments and whatnots are fine but don't encourage fights lar.

Silvertone13's a twat. I don't get it, is this a normal thing for bands to get this whole competition crap to their head after winning? I mean.. I don't even know these bands, so what's the point of the whole holier than thou-my-band-is-taking-over-the-world-and-we're-gonna-bleed-your-ears-like-you-know-we-could thing?

Maybe this guy's just jealous. Or the band's members stole his gf or something. The only thing I could think of that would warrant such negativity has to be a personal reason....?

Deviating from the specifics of this post.
I don't think local musicians should be forced to support other local musicians if they don't like their music. Just because someone is in the music scene doesn't mean they should be forced to buy a CD or attend gigs of bands they don't really like.

Putting down other bands, well I'm not against it to be honest, but I think doing it anonymously is just goddamn pathetic. Though he did claim to be in some band, until he reveals himself, he's a wimp. The way he phrases it is just plain boring too, "this band suck one la", *yawn*. I'm actually with him, only on the disliking of bad obsession's music, but his stupidity that just pours through his post is too overwhelming and I really just want to see his face getting smashed by a brick.

agreed blank and sage +100 + sexy zebras

Dong is my personal friend and so is um, Roxxi, but even I have never been a big fan of the band and I've told them that myself. I do attend their gigs to support them though.
But this post was simply to highlight the way the hatred is being thrown out, and the approach towards dissing the band. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm sure we all have our fair share of bands we dislike
our fair share of people we dislike
but it's sad when the forward movement of the scene is affected BECAUSE of this dislike.

And Krist, your abrupt change of topic couldn't be more obvious :) But I won't nitpick at that and will just accept that you have accepted my answers. Kudos.

The exchange in this thread proves only one thing: Ignorance can kill you... with embarassment ;)

Anyway, Silvertone13 is... well, another example of ignorance.

Putting down someone else's band is too simple it's not even trendy anymore!
too much empty and blanket criticism, not nearly enough action, that's what killing the local scene.
why not do something constructive with your time, silvertone13?

oh wait, I guess winning the 'singapore band challenge 2008' gives you carte blanche to critic local bands eh?

Quite simply..this Silvertone13 dude...Yes, he doesnt appear to be very bright with his comments but still, everyone is entitled to their own opinions ..There are billions of such remarks that goes on all over the internet everyday and well, it does not change a thing. I like local bands to some point* but support everyone who goes up there and plays his/her hearts out. The problem is a lot of local musicians don't feel the same way..They compare and ridicule local bands with western influence or maybe their own bla bla bla....FACT is we are Singaporeans and we may never be seen as serious lyricists or musicians in the english mainstream .Well..the Beauty of it is, local bands don't let these bring them down and just go up there and play..and for that, i support their cause..The little that we give might go a long way for the future of local music..

PS: This is just my point of view so nobody should get all riled up..this IS the kopitiam right?..wink*

Guess that narrows it down to two other bands :)
It's not really the case of WHICH band it is though. It's just the general attitude that sucks. If you want to criticize that's fine. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, just like everyone is entitled to read about them :P

i feel a need to be a man of few words.many thoughts, put into action.

don't look for trouble. let trouble come looking for you.

most people are different behind the monitor screen.

20¢ worth

Sitting on the other side of the fence, i also feel that we shouldn't just support local bands for the sake of supporting local. I've fallen into that trap once when I was a pimply teenager. Support all local bands(no matter how crappy they are), stand united against corporate music machines, blah blah blah.... you know that fricken drill and I have a bunch of shitty demos that should not even exist and attended gigs that are totally puke worthy. All for the sake of supporting local.

Criticism constructive or not should be there to push bands further, likewise praise should be given when it is due. No point of bro bro here sis sis there abang adik till the cows come home, a bloody false sense of security.

Lets support quality(however we deem quality is) over emotional bias. We'll get there. Look at the quality of bands now compared to 1990? We'll get there.

Yeah agreed to the above comment!
There's a lot of people who go "must support the local scene!" when in the end, it comes down to "Must support my band okay?". Ask them to put their money where their mouth is and they back away. Ask them to pay a few bucks for a ticket and they shy away from their so-called enthusiastic support.

And blind support is lame. It really is. But it's an entirely different thing to slam a band AND start boasting about how great his own band is in the very next comment. "I've done this, I've done that, what have YOU done?" He may have joined a competition, but the scene isn't always about competition. Sure, sometimes it is, but that's healthy competition which is entirely different from this nonsense.

The reason for the post is to highlight this form of attitude towards others. It could have been anyone else, and I don't know who this person is personally.

levan nicely put up and really what a snoob this Silverstone13 is...My goodness .... Hahahaha, can't believe it.

and

krist:-
Please do not ever attempt to give threat of any sort (verbal as in here) to any of the Forumers here at Soft....Don't go personal.

=Krist
What is your problem dude? Jeepers merely said that he felt what u were saying was baseless and not in line with what he thinks. You urself took an unnecessarily hostile tone toward levan, you dont see him trying to confront you. Thats what people do in forums, don't have to get so worked up and start giving odd threats. Take a chill pill, then u go from this:evil: to this:mrgreen:

=edder
Yeah I completely agree with you on that. While it is important to not discourage the scene, like what this lack-of-an-ego fella did on youtube, ppl also shouldnt blindly support every band they see, regardless of whether the bands can actually play real music or not. Sadly i see so many of these people at gigs.. Not that its a bad thing, like the intention is good. But the outcome isnt as good

personally i didnt really support local bands till i heard a gig from this band at the home club quite some time ago. cant remember the name of that band but they had soul :D
but what really made me not support these local bands in the 1st place was basically the quality of it last time. apparently, like someone said earlier, it's improved, but that's only one band, we have alot of them, hope there are plenty more good ones around :)

Hehehehe!! Silverstone13 - I think he's just a 13 year old boy, who'd probably won his first band competition and thought as being the best. He still got a lot to learn in life!

Well, I can see the thing about supporting local musicians. Yes, I do support local musicians. But sometimes, the band that played....woah..really can't make it one lah...not even the average standard. But being polite to friends whom invited me to their gigs, I would just say...ok...but that would be the first and last thing I'd come for his or her band performance. Hehehe!!

I don't know about the rest, but basing on my time of musicianship in the 80's we can only see good bands performing. Not all can perform. It's not as easy as now, you sell tickets and get the chance to perform irregardless of your capabilities. Of course, there are many good young musicians too. But I felt bad for them to share the stage with bands that really not worth to be on it.

Saluti!
