Wish good luck for mediacorp.DAMN I HOPE I GET PICK!!!:D

PEACE NO WAR!!!

Agreed. My mother has already been complaining about MY music. and my siblings are 17 and 11 respectively. If my mother already complains about my guitar (I didn't even distort or blast) then other parents will complain lor.

The way to solve it, is to make sure THEY DON'T LET THEIR CHILDREN WATCH IT!! THEY COMPLAIN ALSO NO USE IN THE END IF THEY LET THEIR KIDS WATCH IT WHAT!! hahaha

Hi,

The website will be up soon, sometime in end November. When it is up and running, you will be able to upload your pictures, profiles, videos and songs.

Meanwhile however, we are open to receiving CDs, demos and stuff from keen parties who wanna show us what they have, and therefore, the postal service option.

Looking forward to hear all your stuff!

wow, so that means we get to see Live At Abbey Road - type sessions on TV? expect a huge flood of responses hahaha

u guys can also invite old bands to 'reform' on live TV yeah!!!!

Yes, it would be nice to see the reformation of some groups like Padres, Pagans, Oddfellows, Humpback Oak, etc for a special one-off, most definitely.

We are hoping to garner enough public interest and support from the local musicians and viewers to make this an ongoing series. So Softies, please spread the word!

So do give us your support, as we're doing our part to support local music too.

Does the stupid "You are not allowed to take part in this thing if you have a family member working in Mediacorp" rule apply?

=LiveNLoaded

erm...i think you guys forgot about sweet charity...
they should reform...and so should the rockers...

Yeah. Just hope that mediacorp dun censor out the hardcore groups, not too goth though. Metal bands would be nice

Music in Singapore = NO FUTURE (Thats what most people think anyway. I'm not included in the 'most people')

Homegrown music has and will always be around: In the future, the present and the past.

To date, there are so many talented local musicians, songwriters, producers, gig event organisers, promoters, poster flyer designers, indie labels, managers, etc.

So what's the missing link?

There is the lack of a MUSIC INDUSTRY: the whole corporate bigwig honcho business model, the economics of music, the endless flow of cash funding, the endless demand for new releases, gigs, news... i think THAT makes the world go round... and unfortunately, is sorely lacking here in Singapore.

The above are my 2 cents, however. Maybe my understanding is wrong, flawed or untrue. A healthy chain of discussion is good though!

The TV programme is definitely a booster, and about time too. People should stand up and support it, and stop complaining.

Its only lacking because we look at Singapore as a target market.
Based on HMV sales charts I can safely say that Plainsunset latest album sales are on par with Death Cab For Cutie (released around same period, PS was consistently higher on the chart.)

However, Singapore sales make up a meaninglessly small fraction of DFC's total album sales. Hence the big budget to promote the band.

internet can help to redress the balance, but internet can also be used by big companies (and they can employ a whole bunch of people just to push their web presence due to the size of their budgets....)

This is not a cycle that will break easily. We just need to keep slogging and hope that the general public start to notice

Yeah man. I think what we need a label who is willing to package the band and the album. As much as I hate to say it, I think going a little commercial would help sales?

Great points being raised there. I would like to continue to engage in this healthy dose of discussion here, and i hope the producers of the show will take this discussion into consideration as well. Where exactly are they taking this show to? Is it just for entertainment's sake, or is there an intention to create bigger awareness for the extensive pool of talents that have surfaced in Singapore since the early 90s?

If we try to look beyond just the Singapore market, meaning to look internationally, or just S.E.A. region, firstly... do these bands have substantial marketing support, such as a record company who has the budget for a release promo plan?

This, we're only discussing about a company committed to market a talent beyond Singapore. Of course, we thank the heavens for the creation of internet (i.e. MySpace Music) whereby someone in Iceland can listen to I Am David Sparkle from his couch, and that'll be one excuse for record companies to say "Oh, just hand us your pressed CDs and we will distribute it for you. But we would not like to sign a 3-album deal with you, not that sort of longterm commitment. It's risky." And therefore, came the birth of bands like Arctic Monkeys pushing themselves hard on the internet before the record labels swoop in and pick them up.

Now why are record companies not forthcoming to sign on bands, groom & market them? Why do the majority "record companies" here end up playing only a "Distributor" role. They only import and take care of international releases and push them to the stores/radio? SALES, PROFITS & SUSTAINABILITY are in the back of their minds, i would deduce.

And the usual reason they would give is: "The quality, songwriting and marketability are just not comparable to that of international standards. The music is good, but not good enough. Therefore, we cannot afford to invest time & resources in a local band."

Is it then true that locally composed music is just not good enough to be received internationally by an audience? Can the music of Electrico be exported and be placed up there in the international charts.

Let's take it one step at a time. If the ratings for this programme can beat all those "Superband" programmes, then we have more bargaining power.

If not, it is still "More work to be done".

Dear Live and loaded,

I am glad to hear of mediacorp helping local acts, a very important question...are we going to get some METAL?

Regards,
Metalhead

Just in case you didn't know, Singapore's best musical export to Europe and South America is not stephanie sun or sun ho or tanya chua...it's Impiety...they actually make money touring.
