So what did I do after not gettingthe position? Simply - I formed my own band with people I can work with .... the rest is history.

life would be easier for everyone this way. if u hav issues with ur bandmates, n if u can't tolerate with that, opt out...if u can live with that, then live with that n dun make urself think too much bout it n everyone will live happily ever after...

anyway...sorry if i make u repeat...didn't have the patience to read thru everything again...so r u still in that band u're unhappy with?

just fyi, my band, we dont have permanent roles like Lead Guitarists or Rhythm Guitarists. the guitarists in my band, they switch roles everytime. thats how they learn. so yeah i guess its fair that way.

My Opinion -

The Word “Ego” – depends on how you see it really.

If we forgo Ego (meaning we are pretty humble) we will play great in time to come. Why? . A Guitarists or Drummers (as an example here) who forgo Ego must be able to accept himself making mistakes even in front of others – In this manner he frees his mind (justb play - and need not worry about – What if I Play the Wrong-Note) – This Free the Musician Mind – and many a times I believe – When we free our mind (not having to worry about anything – we truly play better) – The more we are afraid that other Musicians will judge us and say we are not good, the worst we perform as we try very hard (unwanted stress & Pressure here will affect our playing)…………..What has this got to do with Ego then? Of course it does. If we try not to measure our own “Self-Worth” or how good we really are" – then there is no stress – we just play and create Music, be ourselves and our creativity will comes out – we will be playing better…….The fact is also - afterall it doesn’t means that if we are the Best here, a Band-Leader or Members Of A Band will definitely take us into the Band or have to take us ….. More importantly it’s about “ Having The Right Attitude Towards Music or As A Team” and …. As A Person.

So – this is also not “How-Lian”, Ego or Showing-Off, if we look at it this way (Think Positive). Afterall must entertain mah in Music so that everyone enjoys it - - Musician have to please the Crowd not other way round…and if the crowd is well pleased this is also not “How-Lian”….some Musicians are just born to be very Flashy (it’s their style and ways and feels) and (some are not) – It’s just being themselves.

A Band-Leader is a Band-Leader, Right or Wrong, Good or Bad (still the Band-Leader, we still have to give him/her the respect) – this is a fact, we must try to work with him/her, like it or not, if really cannot – then join another band (the friendship is more important here, leave peacefully and with good sport) – at the end of the day – It’s all about Working Relationship. A Musician with An Attitude Problem, will usually ends up joining many Bands even in years to come, without being able to stick to a Single one (I’m not talking about Sessionists here).

Through Practicing, we will improve together usually as a Band. But Attitude is really hard to change as it is ingrain in oneself for years (not that it cannot – but tough).


PS; - I have known some Musician (top-notch ones), whom many bands just doesn't wants to play with him...Yes by themselves they are really good (and I do not deny the facts) - but Bands wants Team-Player and this is very true - I did not make this up. It happens to one of my friend last year....Humble ourself - my Music Instructors tells me (It is having the right and good attitude that is most important) when I started out lessons and ..They are Professionals and they told me "I'm not the best player here - but I was lucky they gave me those gigs, because they like me as I'm easy to work with" ..... such humbleness and frankness from them and they are great players.

Have u been for an audition for a guitar slot and then the guitarist ask u to play what he plays? he's aware that you're many times better than him but only ask u to play rhythm for the band. You know if u play lead u can create better melodies out of simple note for note lead/fill-ins that he plays. I can even play lefthanded better than him. Then he said he'll call u but he never did becoz he wants to be the lead guitaist for the band. WTH.

the trend is all about glamour.

Rockito - you must remember that he is the one calling the shots and he have the final say and that he had made the decision for his Band (which is not your perogative), and that he had make the choice here which rightfully belongs to him. Give him your due respect here be it a Yes or a No.

You can be a better player (which I have no doubt on this) - but He is the one having the Final-Say.

PS: - I do not know if he had made the right decision as to not accept you into his Band, but you need not be so work-up here I think - afterall He is the Band-Leader(I pressume) and he say "No To You" in whatever manner

Oh and btw my answer to your question, mr. rockito, would i ask fgl? Is yes. If he starts a rant thread like you.

Now lets not sidetrack any further and get back to topic.

I say that it dosent matter what a guitarist does, even if its for fame or glamour. So long as he suits the band musically and image wise, he would be a better choice than someone more technically competent. Take for instance Slash, he didnt have the serious shred chops of most players in the 80s, but he has crafted out many memorable solos for GNR. He is an icon. Up to this day, i still cant imagine GNR without Slash as their lead guitarist in their lineup. Granted, Buckethead and Bumblefoot are also technically awesome and gifted players, but when they try to play GNR's older stuff, more often than not it just kinda falls short of the man himself.

i should include he's looking for sum1 who can play both rythm and lead in the first post. but i told u guys after..that was in my 5th post.
does my first post mean i did not respect his decision, rudimenatldrummer? y would i wana be unhappy or disappointed or rant or work up or cannot accept the fact he did not choose me like what some of u guys tink? thats not wat happened. r u or some of u guys forcing me to admit thats wat happened? ok lah i let it be, i admit im very disappointed. that was the band i realli want to join..very desperate to join. but i was not chosen and im very sad so i rant. im a weirdo. i should practise practise practise instead of ranting here. i tink that will make some of u guys happy?

i rather look for a band thats suitable for me. like somebody said it all depends on who u end up with. my first post its merely an introduction on the title of the thread. whoever feels it, im sorry but this is just a discussion on lead guitarist who only want the name.

i tink some ppl here who feels the title is not happy so they.. u know.

but im fine. tell u kind of ppl many times, i dont mind im not chosen. i stated several times i dont wana play with that kind of player. i know what i want in a band and what kind of players i want.

back to the topic. my opinion still stand strong. i play what i feel.. i play for the passion and love for music. not for babes or fame or title or living up the name of a lead guitarist. that is my honest opinion. hope u guys respect that. still im just a guitar player.

Don't worry dude. You will find great people. My current band's guitarist and me, we're like wood glue man, before soloing, we would make gestures, and we always share, sometimes I give more solo time to him, sometimes he give more solo time to me. It's all about respecting each other. And being an Izzy is great, you don't have to get the spotlight, but inside you know, you're the heart of the band along with the bassist and the drummer. You don't have to be doing crazy solo's or leads. Look at Izzy Stradlin from Guns N' Roses and Malcolm Young from AC/DC. They are solid hard, and they love it. It's one's decision and point of view that makes playing a pleasure. Peace and good luck on finding a band!
