best value for money ?

Get a ds-1 and a sd-1 and have them modded.
Cost u less than $180 for both new

when u save up more cash, have them both modded

true that. this combination is one of the common boss pedal combinations around. why? well, I suppose its not too bad imo :) .

i use a jnh. love it. but its modded though. will be getting a screddy soon too. so yea. skreddy n jnh. but doubt i'll be using them together at once.

Ah i see. only i have a prob with the deucetone =X

Ill tweak channel 1 again. then decide if i wanna get anything else.

Sorry edder.. haha me forgets bout om labs (Nicky introduced me2 u...)

Something for clarity as ive said..The jnh is definately a get... cuz i like the ts808. the blackstone im unsure.. Never tried but heard clips. The blackstone is definately smoother than the TS.

Actually, the BYOC Screamer(808 clone) is nice too. I may give it a shot. :D

More specifically(What i want my tone to be) 8O
As stated a few times, must be very very very very very very clear when i play chords, also must be able to go from low gain to medium gain to above medium gain.. :!:

Dric, What mod did you to to ur JNH??

Edder, lemme try the Sahasrara Overdrive then i consider? Lend me a unit lar.. I do a review too. haha..

Oh yeah...

The od will be used for blues stuff too..

Ah, yes im a student.. .. haha. another drive pedal? Ive got my rat alr.. my rat, the deucetone rat has 2 channels and its rather versatile.. I know they are expensive.. but with a few years of starving and saving. I should be able to get a nice od or dist pedal to pair with my rat. I intend this investment to last me a long long long time.. So i dun wanna make any mistake la..

The rat is definately a keep. Its my "lead" pedal.. hehe

you can check it out at misse's he's got a unit there.

sorry man... gotta be realistic. i only lend pedals to people whom i personally know.

When you do get to try a blackstone, you'll be very astounded by the dynamics you can get out of it. You don't even need to squeeze. Its all there.

Compared to say... a TS9DX, modded somemore, the TS9DX is so compressed I really really seldom used it alone.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_t2Haq1YcKY : I reccommend tubescreamer type

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9Wrksipi_Q : I reccommend crunch box type

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyEgIaBlCJE: I reccomend a good compressor and digital delay

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO_84C3fpuI : I reccomend erm... ok gods of gain you guys will have to take over here :P (how does he sing and play that riff at the same time i'll never figure out)

So, no be all and end all solution. If you play a mixture of styles you'll probably need a mixture of pedals.

Also, sometimes people have different perceptions on what works well with chords too. Some like to hear every string clearly, some like how the pedal force the notes interact with each other.

The tubescreamers tend to mash some of the notes together, but lots of people love them exactly for that. And you'll find the different variations make the notes interact slightly differently, some growl more, some are smoother, stuff like that.

The marshall style pedals give you that crunch while in a sense retaining string clarity. I dunno, it's kinda hard to define innit? Do you hear two strings or one note? It's definitely not one note, but is it clear? To me I just enjoy the crunch.

but they will never learn.....

i still prefer the tubescreamer kind, although i like the idea of clarity of marshall's crunch. i just like the notes mashed up.

interesting sharing ark 8)

Do a lot of people out there use a tubescreamer for chording purposes or more single note stuff?

Coz I'm under the impression that the tubescreamer is more of the go-to-lead function. It was utterly useless to me, when using alone with humbuckers, had to turn up the tone control so high I was cutting away my low end.

Anyway, there are so MANY ts variants out there... some have less obnoxious mids while some just... mud up.

Funny... i find fuzzes have a much nicer way of "muddying" up, the way harmonics crash around when playing chords. Then of course.. forget tightness... hehehe...

Hey Shred, whats the diff between ur screwdriver and blackstone?
Can a less mid hump pedal like the screwdriver cut thru a band mix?
Thanks.

Screwdriver circuitry based on a fuzz circuit... Bstone is a tranny design but overdrive.

the Bstone is quite a bit more articulate than the SD, way more harmonics / sizzle than the SD, VERY open sounding. SD is more saturated, more gain, more compressed (by a hair). Stacked, I get the tone in my head.

My setup works well in a band with keys and 1 gtr (me). The bstone cuts more than the SD, and its flatter eq-ed, go figure. ;)

Thing is.. I don't want more mids because I find that I lose clarity & notes get less articulate. Perhaps a spike in a narrow mids freq range would work but it sounds typically boring no? But all this is just my silly notion lah. Most people wouldn't bother because if you can't cut THRU it doesn't matter. I guess I like to struggle huh. :D
