I used to own a ts9DX. I didnt like what came out of it. But the keeley ts9dx seems appealing.

Screamers are more for chords to me.. Dont really suit lead well(for me)...Prepares to be (shot):smt071 :smt070 :smt068 :smt067 :smt066 Down by some one.. Bring it on!(awaits Nicky)

Is the MXR ZW-44 OD any good for metal?

no it isnt.
altough it has ZW's name on it. its just a overdrive pedal.
way lacking to play metal stuff.

Most ppl use it to push an overdriven tube amp... and apparently it rocks for that. :P

Agree with Shredcow. It's an overdrive pedal and not a distortion pedal. However, you have to admit that the overdrive sounds more "violent" than other overdrive pedals like the TS, BD2 or OD3. :)

it does sound rather harsh for a overdrive pedal, ive used it once upon a time.
but then you would rather get a sd-2 due to the price tag.

Never tried a SD2  And the Krank is more of a distortion pedal lah. Come to think of it, its a very very heavy overdrive some may say as it doesn't really sizzle off like most distortion pedals. Am i talking sense?

Anyway I might not take the Krank path as I've got other ideas for my main dirt pedal now. 8)

Sd2.. Oh violent.. haha..

yucks.. me hate acdc..

and and.. no. the zakk wylde od will NOT do metal well. Do note that its OVERDRIVE.. NOT distortion.

heh.. havent answered me yet.. the jnh yes or no?? Has a small paint chip at the bottom of the pedal...

Screwdriver, blackstone, jnh and rat.. haha.. thats 4 drives. and 7 channels!!!!!!! oh my word.. who on earth could use so many??? =X.. imagine if "i"(if i get all of em(most likely not gettin em)) turn all on at the same time!!!

hehehehe.. Ill blow my audience man..(if i ever have an audience)

jms,

i use a JnH, it would say its one of the best overdrive/distortion pedal ive used.
definetly the strong side of the JnH pedal is the J side. real sweet overdrive.
the H side of the pedal, its a very versatile distortion and it does it well too.
only down side is the H side to me sounds abit thin when playing heavy chunky stuff. but that can be troubleshot if you switch both the J and H side of the pedals ON.

i would say its well worth 170.

Yupz the Krank Distortus Maximus is one heavy-assed distortion pedal. Just tons of pummeling gain. Definitely not an overdrive.

I do love the jnh too.. but. im hesitant.

dont wanna make any mistake here. ive the cash to buy it like now. but it depends on wheather i can find another pedal too.

My bro has one.. alot of my friends have one. haha.. and. ive played around with g77's test set quite a number of times!.. haha

Edder or randolf or gsonique and other pedal modders/builders./.. care to Name me some mods i should consider 4 a jnh?? and care to tell me what u gys are building now?

ehy...

cow.

why does the jnH turn you off?

Its just personal preference, hence, it turns me off. :P

I find its sound very tinny. The TS808 side, is well.. i dont; like tubescreamer style pedals... But its definately functional. Some pedals you take it up, its like its not your sound, but yeah, it works.. some you don't like the sound and it just cannot make it also.

I do find the EQ quite... limited.

The Boss Metalzone has a much better EQ. Marshall Jackhammer too.

J&H is nice versatile piece of action with good vfm !
The ZIM is a better upgrade anytime !!

Mods are many but you need to know what you want ...!
I would suggest an all freq clean boost aft as an afterbunner :D

A few recepies are brewing at tha moment but since its pretty close to Christmas + backorders ....early next year will have few a debuts !!
