I cannot believe the hogwash...

Ibanez was doing it when they first started out and I guess the main reason why Gibson is getting flak is because they are already such a big and established company to begin with. Sueing the crap out of PRS for imitating their les paul and then doing this is just ironic to the extent of say, pot calling kettle black?

Not the same thing. Ibanez was copying everyone (not just Gibson) right off to build their business. They decided to stop even before the lawsuit, and reinvented themselves after. Ibanez has done everything else with pride in being themselves after.

Gibson here on the other hand, is cashing in on a name KNOWING they can get away with it. I don't feel bad for Fender, but I do feel sorry for Jimi Hendrix.

Gibson had every right to sue PRS for the singlecut. the court threw it out, and that's good for PRS. But it is true that the singlecut was a derivative design off the Les Paul. PRS has always taken classic designs off the shelf and made it their own renditions, offering improvements. The Custom 22/24s were Strat/Lespaul hybrids. The 305 is an improvement on the old strat design and the singlecut is an improvement (of sorts) over the LP.

Fender can't claim this one because they already lost the lawsuit against Suhr and some other smaller players. Sad for them, but happy for those who won.

Gibson should realise: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

does anybody remember the gibson mk III made years ago?

It was gibson's failed attempt at making a superstrat hence the stopping in production. my guess is this one is gonna be a failed strat clone

i think seriously gibsons should stick to lespauls/sgs/semihollows and the likes. theyre more well known for such designs anyway.

What? A big company like Gibson that came up with so many influential, original designs copies another? By far one of the most ridiculous things I've heard.

Well, here's how it goes for me. Gibson can copy from Fender. But if I want a strat, I'll turn to Fender because Fender created the strat and has improved and modified it over many decades. They created the strat and they know it best. Fender specializes in strats. So even if Gibson were to make strats, I'd choose to go to Fender. That's the important thing to me.

Looks like a decent starter pack but using Jimi Hendrix's name on it and copying the strat shape from fender is just..wrong..

Now,if only fender had the rights to the stratocaster shape...

Actually I think its a pretty cool move by Gibson. Clearly they are not hoping to make the 'Authentic Hendrix' a viable guitar line in Gibson and I'm sure the execs know it. It seems like rubbing salt in the wound after Fender Musical Instrument Corp. lost its stratocaster trademark lawsuit against ESP, Lackland, Peavey, Suhrguitars, Tom Anderson Guitars, Indoor Storm, Tradition Guitars, Schecter, WD MUsic Products, Sadowsky and Michael Tobias.

Gibson wasn't even on that list but here they are now with a smile on their faces I'm sure. Right on ya bastards...

And to all Gibson Les Paul owners... every Les Paul made after 1960 is a COPY!!!!!

whats the big hoo ha? fender came out with 3 single cut lp model under squier brand call 'series 24' in 2002. business as usual bro.

dude, chill man. i think he's just playing around, cause the 1959 les paul was very iconic and is said to be THE les paul.

yesss fender should make a "slash signature les paul" thats bolt on and has S-H-S config with floyd rose and a reversed gibby shaped headstock. wait thats the same shape.

I agree with you. The "copy" concept Ibanez was doing back then was mostly to cash in on other designs in order to build up their business. Gibson is already an established business to begin with....but they decided to copy too to cash in.

Similar ideas to make money under various guises....but what Gibson is doing now, its just really blatant. I think my respect for the current management just went down another notch.

More lawsuits to come......I guess they were running out of ideas....

Maybe it would be best to substantiate your claim with reasoning as to why you say gibson lespauls after 1960s are copies?

I don't know about the rest, but I do know that the next Slash model is going to be a copy, and it's going to be a hit! I know, because I'll probably buy one myself!

Actually, I CAN applaud one aspect of this fiasco. This attempt could be seen more than just a cash in. It COULD be an attempt to erode FENDER's brand equity.

Imagine this: Kid buys one. loves it. Next time he wants to upgrade, looks at a Fender and says: "Nah I don't want a copy. I want a Gibson Strat, just like what Jimi played".

Far fetched? I think it IS possible given how dumb some people can get.

Actually, I think its awesome news for Hendrix purists like me! Hendrix is my major influence and as a bonehead fan, i have bought almost everything proclaimed to be related to Hendrix on the shelves. I have all bought all sorts of memorablia since i was a wee lad...such as a psychedelic guitar leather case(I was conned by some dodgy shop at peninsular when I was 16 saying that Hendrix used something similiar)check.Guitar straps with Hendrix logos?check. Guitar picks by Jim dunlop with Hendrix peectures?check.Almost every known Hendrix-claimed fuzz pedal by all kinds of online stompbox manufacturers? check. All kinds of bootleg Hendrix recordings of crappy quality?check.Hendrix Signature Wah Pedals? check. Hendrix Signature multieffects(Read- Digitech) check(sadly)The list goes on an on and yes, it looks stupid, but hey, then I guess all real fans are guilty of that. Gibson's move will be more than welcome for me,I'd get it before they get sued by Fender, and then it will be discontinued, but at least I'll own a part of his legacy, and hey!Its Gibson, not some dodgy brand anyways.

I think theres no big deal here, its just like Roger Mayer and his fuzz pedals that he custom built for Hendrix while he was alive. After his death, every Tom Dick and Harry proclaimed that their version of that stompbox is the accurate tonal replica of the Hendrix sound.

Also, with the internet, I'm sure kids who are interested in Hendrix would know about Fenders and Gibsons and Hendrix, so its not a misrepresentation if there are no claims made. It's just Gibson's take on the Hendrix Strat, of which I can't wait to see how they do it. It will force Fender to buck up I believe. All in all, this is excellent Marketing tactics (milking it) and also an excellent tribute to the icon that is Hendrix.

Hey, I totally agree with you Mr Snuffleupagus,
I would get this hogwash strat if I'm such a big fan of the legend.
Being a Beatles freak, I would hunt down any stuff related to them and would not think twice about getting a Ric 325 even if its made by IKEA or even Armani , as long as my wallet permits.

i'm keen to know how much is the price. I feel that the one in the gibson blog(black color headstock) looks much2 prettier compare to the one advertised as a pack
