hey, u wanna know how its like, go do NS ah!!!! lol...i havent gone through it yet as im still schooling, but i dun look forward to it at all...

NS taught me alot of things about life that I would probably will never have the chance to learn if I din serve NS:

1) Do anything u like but don get caught
2) There is no justice in this world (i.e u see those clerks relax one corner while u chiong like mad with a rifle)
3) U get to know the real meaning of "lowest lifeform" when u are a recruit
4)Don argue with ur superiors cos no matter wat their rank is bigger than urs and so they will always win.
5)Wayang(i.e act busy or "very on" when ur superiors are around), a skill that is very useful in society.
6)That some species of mosquitoes are not afraid of insect repellant
7)That people will do anything to get out of camp, be it medical appointments , MCs or any sort of lame excuses.
8.)U learned all sorts of skills, for eg. dig holes, dig drains, some basic capentry, painting, painting the carpark, wiring, gardening, washing of toilets, sweeping the road.
9) That people who are "medically excused from heavy load", actually can go to a gym to carry heavy weights when they booked out. There must be some mysterious force in the civilian world that cured him of his backaches..hmmm
10) And lastly, a lifetime of experience, be it funny, stupid or garang to share with ur NS mates or any other NS men. :D

So NS is fun! (That is after u have served it and looked back on it  )

Agreed.

Not all clerks relax. I would take a rifle over a pen anyday.
3) U get to know the real meaning of "lowest lifeform" when u are a recruit
Applies to all without a single chocolate bar on the shoulder.
4)Don argue with ur superiors cos no matter wat their rank is bigger than urs and so they will always win.
Yup. Suck thumb.
5)Wayang(i.e act busy or "very on" when ur superiors are around), a skill that is very useful in society.
Good for dodging those RSM arrows.
6)That some species of mosquitoes are not afraid of insect repellant
Thats why now they submerse the uniform in some chemical starting with "P"
7)That people will do anything to get out of camp, be it medical appointments , MCs or any sort of lame excuses.
Everyone does that.
8.)U learned all sorts of skills, for eg. dig holes, dig drains, some basic capentry, painting, painting the carpark, wiring, gardening, washing of toilets, sweeping the road.
Add these to the list: Water plants, act blur, everything say "I dunno" helps etc..
9) That people who are "medically excused from heavy load", actually can go to a gym to carry heavy weights when they booked out. There must be some mysterious force in the civilian world that cured him of his backaches..hmmm
Yup have one in my camp, freaking fit clerk. So fit that he has no duties. No even clerk duties.
10) And lastly, a lifetime of experience, be it funny, stupid or garang to share with ur NS mates or any other NS men. :D
Your buddies are those that make it bearable in the end.
So NS is fun! (That is after u have served it and looked back on it  )

Just do your 2 years and go back to your life. Don't try to be a hero by signing on and shit like that. Cause if you do then you have wasted your life away.

Hmm

+/- 1

[+] if u have the passion for military service/your childhood ambition to be a solider.

[-] if u r just going for the cash itself cuz the job can be quite bland & energy-sucking.

Well... i think you can/should sign on if you can be an officer. Otherwise, you'll always be at the whim of every junior officer around.

Plus you get your education paid for then get a what, 6 yr bond?

to most of us musicians here, NS juz sucks..... coz NS suck up your time alot...

believe me none of us would wants to go through all this shit again..... but still there will be some people who like NS, that's how the world works so good luck to anyone going to NS or in NS alrdy....

Signing on for officer is a good choice if u are interested in the millitary and is a scholar, u will only be promoted till Major with only a diploma or degree. U have to be an SAF scholar in order to go beyond the rank of major. So sometimes it would be better to be signed on as a specialist. Warrant officers also get more respect than officers.

in conclusion

There are some who is for NS and some against NS.

We are all just stats to them.

So yeah.....I F**Kin Hate National Slavery and its extended contracts!!!!!!!

I got in a lot of trouble in National Service that I still couldn't believe I got out in one piece.
The highlight of my NS days? -- Getting my pink identity card back!
