help wif DIY pedals

hahaha... i wonder if auntie got win or not?

Pots, I used to source from overseas. Meggitt-Piher but now they're Meggitt something else... anyways they've gotten a bit too ex and I've to mount them at an odd angle plus their shaft are super long, so have to manually cut the shafts. One pedal nevermind, 4 pots. 10 pedal 40 pots. 100 pedals... 400 pots. Not fun at all.

I've bought a batch of alpha pots from Small Bear. So far so good and so small too! Small Bear is a great resource for DIY'ers.

ok thanks for the heads up Edder and goose. i guess small bear is the way to go, not only is it a great resource for diyers, the owner is a nice guy.

about the wah pot and inductor, i ever toyed with the idea of swapping out both on my gcb95. but i did read from somewhere that its the circuit design that has more influence on the tone than the inductor and pot.

short shaft pot, i found some, but only in 1meg value.

for log/audiotaper pot, try the koba electronic(i also dont know where it is, just walk around and check i guess) or the corner shop i mentioned(heh, thanks kitty, yeah, continental it shud be, am pretty bad remembering shops names)

one of the geetar shops in peninsular(shud be the one linked to ranking sports), near to davis, got 500k log pot, but its the smaller size one.

Don't forget that many times you can fake your log pots with a parallel resistor and a linear pot.

http://www.geofex.com/article_folders/potsecrets/potscret.htm

Usually I just fake it if possible otherwise just use a linear and see how it goes. If the response really annoys me I'll track down a log one.

Bear in mind I also use ceramic resistors, TL072's, plastic cases and the cheapest molded guitar leads rankin sells ;)

mwahaha, but you still rocksss lah, widdly!

most of the time i also dont really bother with the log thingy when needed and just use linear for everything as long got sound and the turn over the whole range still give me an acceptable range to play with

oh, kinda reminds me, within the toneczar modded expression pedal, theres 2 toggle switch, one of it prolly useful and quick way when needing log/antilog/linear pot forwithout buying one, it had a resistor and a toggle switch to switch between pseudo log, antilog and the usual linear mode

Hey Goose, sorry to veer slightly off topic, but are the Dunlop Hot Potz fitted on the standard production range Dunlop wahs, e.g. 535Q, GCB95, etc.?

if i am not wrong ...koba is at peoples park ...one of the upper floors

if you are into diy
maybe can consider the "Morley" way
use light sensitive resistors ( lsr )
no friction wear
can customise log curve by shaping the light blocker ...

no .. i have not done it b4 ... just know it can be done : )

ahh, peoplespark, that sounds familiar. If not wrong, the son of the owner of that shop, happens to be playing geetar and into diy-ing a whileback. Could be the same guy i met thru mrmisse couple of times back in 04/05.

You are rite Ratboy.
Koba is at
101 Up Cross St #03-06 People's Pk Centre
Singapore 058357
It fully of everything but bit expensive some product than simlim.
The corner shop at simlim is mend by old timer if i not wrong. But seem they dont stock any Log pot anymore.

ok i got another really noob question for edder. what do you use to cut the shafts? i've got 3 pots with shafts that are at least 2cm too long.

my meggitt's are plastic shaft, so i use hand cutter to clip em all off. a few fricken hundreds of them... i really hate that part of building pedals.

those sim lim pots are pretty hard to cut. Last time when I was experiementing I clamped it somewhere and use a saw but really, waste time only.

woah hardcore siah, sawing it off.

heh, the time can be spent on eating and drinking

wah sian, means i wasted about 3 bucks on sim lim pots. $3 could have been spent on food and drinks!

Yeah the sim lim pot is the most @#$#$!@#$!~@# kind.

I saw them off with a rotary tool, still takes forever thoug

Hi bro ..not sure as they are always changing ...what you do is just open your wah and have look inside if it this...

taypeng81: 3 bucks is nothing... you should see my huge load of unfinished project from 10 years ago till now.... hur hur hur.... at least a few hundred worth of parts there.

pathein: exactly! thats why I'm using small bear's alpha pots now. No sawing and just as good! more time for beer and food! hahaha....

seekz: rotary tool! heh, I've done that too, but a little metal saw and a clamp is so much easier and faster too... but then again... Its bloody unnecessary on those cheapass pots from Simlim! My rotary tool these days only use for minor routing on guitars. Its not seen the light for a long time already!

jdawg: they have hotpotz I(looks like a normal pot) and II, i remember some wah uses specifically the hotpotz I but then I've not been in touch with modding pedals for a while so don't really know what is current. My favourite pots are the Propots with a black rubber cap for dust "protection", doesn't do much lah but the difference is that the resistance measure to around 200k rather than 100k and somehow I feel that the taper is nicer.

taper very nice- that means your hand or member got majik, at first partner seem uninterested, but towards the end, its like explosions in the sky, chiiiiiiibaaaaaaboooomb
