I've got a thing for Jackson guitars. They are well good for the price. If I were to ever replace that guitar, it's going to be with it's USA made variant with an Ebony board.

If I watch enough Michael Romeo guitar videos, I might just give Caparison a shot in future!

Don't forget Caparison is by the brainchild of Jackson Itaru!!!!! But i have to agree, those USA jacksons are top notch

Ok after a 6 month wait, the Strandberg Boden 7 is finally here! Mine come with a custom requested ebony fretboard, that's the only difference aside from the rest of the production models...to the pictures!

The Endurneck profile.

A comparison of the size of the Boden with the Iceman 7-string. The Boden is super light.

Is that the new ibanez 8 string iceman?!??

@novocaine: very interesting axe you have there.
How does the endur neck profile feel like ?
Chunky? Slim? 50's? 60s? Thanks, Vic

Hi Vic, i've been playing the strandberg solely for a week now. The neck profile is unique, it's neither 50s chunky not 60s slim, it's not even rounded so it's hard to compare (it's triangular in fact)...it's tapered and shaped according to the thumb grab and fretting fingers along the length of neck. I think the main purpose is to extend play time by providing the necessary ergonomics. And personally, i think that's achieved. It's really comfortable to play and now the iceman's neck feels way chunky.

a stripped down SG had been done before- Faded series. i used to own one:

SG+special+faded+1.JPG

all the tributes & the current SGJ aren't too different from the Faded, in fact, i'd say the current variations are actually the Faded in some other guises albeit not an exact repro. the Faded was a nobody- it's deemed as one of the lower Gibsons with no special features. at that point in time, nobody was into a gloss-free finish or for that matter, nobody quite understood what that finish type had to offer. Gibson went viral with their gloss-free finish subsequently with the Les Paul BFG being the primary highlight & it triggered all the gloss-free Tributes we don't mind buying today.

the SGJ if fundamentally a Faded with even lesser frills- no pickguard & an unglamourous pair of covered humbuckers. add 2 more frets to that too. however, i'm not of the opinion that these guitars are the lower end Gibsons- Gibson doesn't make lower end stuff, if they do, then it reads 'Epiphone'. the QC is superb. if you are into the SG feel, the neck retains that familiar handling, just that it's gloss-free which is something i prefer. ditto the Gibson tones- the 490 humbuckers are there to ensure that rounded, Gibson buzz which is good news for Gibson fans (but not for me).

icycool123: forgive the bad lighting in the previous post- i didn't buy a black guitar (trying very hard to avoid black). Gibson calls this 'chocolate'. strapped, the SGJ is no different from other SGs- it balances better than played sitting down :)
