To be fair, according to numbers, Singapore did progress in the last 5 years. The question is whether the citizens felt its progress, or whether the citizens feel that they are part of this progression. From those coffeeshop talks and internet forums, it appears that the citizens do not feel that they are a part of this progression, or they dont feel that the nation's progress had positively impacted them very much. For example, it is a fact that the nation rebounded sharply in mid-2009, but many citizens have not felt the positive effects of recovery. In fact, many still complain about the lingering effects of a downturn. So in a sense, even when the government had performed reasonably well in the last 5 years, the government still hasnt meet the peoples' expectations, because the people cannot feel it, or the people cannot relate their welfare to the government's performance.
