Hmm.
^ bear in mind that so many of our youths today are depending on the 4 main mediums of communication to gain access to music or artistes:
1. Television (think MTV, tvmobile, channel V etc etc)
2. Radio (think 98.7, Power98 etc etc)
3. Internet (think itunes, p2p programmes, online music sites)
4. Magazines or newspapers.
Back in the days of yore, why did Led Zeppelin or Iron Maiden or whichever band gain so much popularity? It was mainly by this immense word-of-mouth. Is this 'word-of-mouth' communication still going on? of course, through blogs, daily conversation etc.
However, that effect has been diluted due to the above-mentioned 4 main threads of communication. So given the fact that the above-mentioned 4 channels of mass communication are controlled by government or whatever... what makes anyone here believe that maybe a local band which does not play mainstream music would get the same amount of 'exposure' compared to a band which 'sells out'?
Let's face it, because it's true: selling out = more exposure = more money for the record company which is the true intention of talent shows. It's about making money, not having the direct intention of giving the band a name for itself.
So back to the thread: why is there no english superband competition?
Sad but true: english bands do NOT sell in singapore.
