english superband?

CCCrush.

They even have their own website, should check up their MTV, its hilarious!

One of them is working in MDC too... heh.

this thread made me realise that it's sad but true. English bands really don't sell in Singapore. but that's changing right? there has to be something we can do to change that. the fact that SOFT exists and there's support for bands like Ronin and Electrico shows that there IS support, we just gotta build on it. and I don't feel that either Ronin or Electrico sold out. maybe the music scene in Singapore will be ready for more English bands in a coupla years' time? it might just need time to grow.

Yeah...The amount of fans at the Baybeats supporting acts like Electrico and Plainsunset is already better than bands in SuperBand. Sometimes our country is too small to hold ROCK band competitions. If there is another English SuperBand on Ch 5, I think they will again allow boybands girlbands boyground girlgroup acapella to join as well.

maybe define what band means clearly? ie--play your own instruments or go a cappella (I think a cappella still counts, after all voice is an instrument too and it's still one step up from boybands etc.)

Hmm.

My personal definition of 'band' is:

the group may consist of at least two people, with at least one member playing /being technically proficient in a musical instrument.

Of course any 'group' exceeding the 7 person mark would (IMO) be considered a mini orchestra.

Personally I consider 'a capella' groups as 'groups'. Not bands.

hmmm nice definition but 'groups'...you see that would include boybands a la Westlife/A1/Boyzone style, and I'm not sure if acappella singers deserve to be in that class! lol. what they do requires real talent.

Hmm.

In all honesty, we have to admit that if those boybands could 'sing' and dance and do all that choreographed stuff, they gotta have some talent right..?

But it is true... maybe 'a cappella' should be under 'mini choir'.. because that's what vocal groups are.. 'choirs'.

hmm just hope that the English bands it won't be just rock... or they would even be open to instrumental music...

but then again, the true instrumentalists might not go for any organised competition because they feel they don't have to proof themselves...?

hmmm. just hope someday all the Steve Vais and Joe Satrianis in Singapore emerge and like show the world... haha... but i don't think a competition will bring them out unless it is not so publicised...

yup it's so sad how commercialisation spoils anything.

And when all the instrumentalist, Steve Vais and what nots gets the public attention, people will say they sell out. When they don get the attention, pple will say that they deserve more than this. Its a never ending story....

of course not... i personally wouldn't mind something like jamiroquai or a lil jazz...

ya hor. if accapella can... a whole school choir can make it.

as some has already mentioned, it's the lack of English following in the region lah. bulk is still Chinese and Malay language.

reason why S'pore Idol can pull off is because American Idol has already laid a path for this show. It's really like franchise stuff.

but it's quite sad that we have to have the Americans make one before we can do one ourselves.
and btw a cappella singing is quite different from choir singing, IMO. there's a similarity in that people sing different parts of the same song but the techniques are quite different and acappella groups involve vocal percussionists too. it's not really a mini-choir. choral music and acappella music are like two different genres.
and mobius has a point. if any musician who used to be indie becomes successful, he's accused of selling out. if they stay indie and struggling then people say they're underrated. LOL. it's so roundabout.
