To those who think that paying $20 on-site service charge to an repairman uncle is being ripped off (if the set was not fixed).
Firstly, he didn't ask to come to your place to fix your tv. You asked him to come. By social principle, you already owe him that much at the least. (local economics, by cab or own vehicle, $20 to cover the transport is very fair, when you own your own car you will know)
Secondly, you put youself in his position. He needs a salary to bring back. Either money for family or drinking or betting, is beside the point. He has spent his time on your account, meaning working for you. If you don't want pay him even a paltry $20, does it not mean you are denying pay to a worker?? (which some can be interprete as violating ones human's right)
Lastly, this example shows us how difficult is it for us to be a small time businessman. Let's say an honest repairman, rents a small business space for $800 per month, spend $1000 on his van per month, spend $300 on phone and utility. Bottom rung salary of $1500 per month. He needs make at least $3600 just to make ends meet. Which works out to be $120 per day he need to make as profit, if he works 30 days a month without rest.
We are not even talking about paying an individual for his craftmanship. So how is anyone gonna make it in singapore?? You must be quite an exceptional PERSON to do so.
All those who agree say AYE!!!
