Do Singapore Vocalist Suck?

Um, if you want to talk about property and cars and money defining whether someone is a good example of a singer who has made it, then I think MANY of us here in SG would fit the bill higher than him.

Why don't you do a survey on the Singaporean public, and ask them if they feel Taufik or Hady have made it in any way?

Because from basically everyone I know in person, NONE do.

im talking abt what they earned from singing..
not from working in some lame offices..

its the singaporeans which made them win..
we voted for them, and now ur telling me to conduct a survey still?
arent the answers clear enough?

ive got nothing against u, but u gotta change ur attitude and accept that they are way better than u..

i think ur just plain jealous..
do u have a band?
are u a vocalist?
let we all see if ur band is good enough..
ur acting like u have the best pipes,dude..

rockassmonster, I hope you realise that I am in no way at all jealous of them. If you doubt my musical ability, ask anyone who has played with me, or come jam with me yourself! I am not saying I'm the world's greatest because I am far from it, I am saying I have more than enough ability and self-confidence to not be jealous of Taufik or Hady musically.

I am also saying that neither Taufik nor Hady are the definition of what a singaporean entertainment superstar should be, which is what Singapore Idol is. I hope for the sake of the music scene in Singapore that your opinion on this is not the direct opposite of mine.

Velvetrevolver, do we know each other?? You know my full name!

Every musician able to feed themselves and/or their family through this passion have made it in my opinion. Respect to all the working musicians out there.

I've seen some rather... Disconcerting views while reading this thread. I shall refrain from commenting further on this because I do not wish to ignite an emotional firestorm of indignation within some people. Those who sort of know me in one way or another, what I have to say on this, I believe I've said before. Go figure ;)

The best don't necessarily make it, the worst don't always drop out.

Ya, that's true.

Taufik and Hady are certainly not the best singers but as you know, an entertainer and a public figure is certainly more than just being able to belt it out real good.

They have to be visually appealing and entertaining, able to build rapport with the audience, be guys whom 'girls can bring home to meet their parents' type and somebody whom almost every age range can relate to and thus like, and all that shiit.

Record companies (which of course are one of the sponsors for talent shows like Idol) recognize that the wider the appeal, the more CDs/online music downloads/shows etc. they may able to sell.

Easy as that.

I've been auditioning vocalists for the past 8 months, and none
of them even come close to what we've expected.

So many people flocking over to Singapore Idol when HELLO, do
you guys realize that you all actually can't sing?

Come on, someone prove me wrong and show me that Singapore
has talent!

I've seen great guitarists, great bassists, great drummers, but I can't
seem to find a single vocalist that sounds decent.

I think I speak for many of us when I say, we don't really give a damn what you think. Sorry, but them are the breaks, and the truth will set you free. Debating with you on the merits of vocalists in Singapore is like trying to reassure a brick in a wall that it isn't just a brick in a wall (which it actually is).

I'm assuming that you are a fairly generic person with a fairly generic and unimportant existence, leading an uninspiring and semi-redundant life. Why do I make this accessment? Well, if you're going to begin a thread with a sweeping stereotype, then you might as well be classified under one as well in the interest of fairness.

'Em are the breaks kid. Deal with it. Don't bother defending yourself, because we are not of equal intellectual capacity. Any counter-argument to an essentially flawed opening statement would be counter-productive.

I've seen great guitarists, great drummers and great bassists. I've also seen a great number of dimwitted throwaway baff bags impersonating a human being - you being one of them.

Eh tim, time out here. I've noticed that the people here are all set on their original premise and what you say ain't gonna change it, that's why I've refrained from entering an argument. I simply cannot be bothered to dirty my fingers, so take a chill pill, and see who else comes and takes the banner and slugs it out. The observation of two stubborn people verbally bitchslapping each other is around as entertaining as engaging and destroying someone's argument, trust me. ;)

Ai ya. Someone posted a cooment here that I think will sum all this drama up :

If you are dissatisfied or unhappy with something, there are 2 things you can do:

A) Do it yourself
B) Shut the hell up.

tim, i do not know you, but a quick search with your email address shows you on facebook and friendster. and i got access to lots of your pics there. thats the thing bout cyberspace. if one hates you, they can really do things to hurt you. thankfully, im not that way. and i believe so is the case with other soft users as well.

just hope you'd change your attitude man, before someone eventually does the unimaginable.
