Who the hell cares whether Timmy boy thinks that Taufik nor Hady deserve the Singapore Idol title?!

It doesn't say much already, about somebody who seems to like to post acidic, counter-productive, narrow-minded remarks and opinions about others, and still do not have the smarts to not display his Hotmail address.

So, in his world he has his own thinking, no matter how biased or shallow they appear to others but man... who the crap cares?!!

Until he makes a name for himself in the music industry, and hopefully grow to accept criticism and detractors (IF he ever makes it, that is), then let's just close this case.

tim, i do not know you, but a quick search with your email address shows you on facebook and friendster. and i got access to lots of your pics there. thats the thing bout cyberspace. if one hates you, they can really do things to hurt you. thankfully, im not that way. and i believe so is the case with other soft users as well.

It's an online forum, we exchange words and opinions over cyberspace, what is the deal with looking up one's social networking site profile, and much worse, another person commenting that showing my email address is an act of stupidity?

On a side note, I've got a gig at St. James' this sunday at 7 pm, if you'd like to have a few drinks after I'm done and chit chat about this or life in general, feel free to come down, support the others who are playing and meet me! You get to support the local scene in a tiny way too. Plus due to my lack of intelligence, as quoted by HecklerKoch false as it may be, recognising me shouldn't be too tough since my many pictures aren't hard to find. So hopefully I'll see one of you there!

I don't really agree with tim, in fact I think everyone is wrong. I think taufik and hady have made it solely because they can make a living holding drinks and smiling, but have they truly made it? No they haven't, I'm very sure no singapore idol ever will. I'm sorry but if you sing english, you're not white, AND you want to be a famous pop star(e.g kelly clarkson, britney spears etc etc). You simply won't "make it", not anywhere, not ever. It doesn't matter how much talent you have.

So you can't really put hady and taufik down because it's not really their fault for being asian. Also, you can't really measure someone's talent by the amount of fame and recognition their recieving. Though for me, I pretty much dislike the entire factory-line brand of pop so for me their all boring and they suck. But I'm speaking from a general point of view here.

Look at jonathan leong, how the hell did that guy make it so far he had a pretty obvious variation of the "singaporean trying to sound angmoh" accent, AND his vocal range was like half an octave. Nothing wrong with that(e.g billie holiday), but if you want to be a pop star, it's just not going to work out no matter what.

i know i'm going to watch singapore idol to cringe, i don't know why i enjoy doing it. singaporean vocalists don't suck, but the vocalists who have been on singapore idol seem to suck pretty bad.

I was just wondering why you didn't seem to know the reason why strangers suddenly know your full name, your age and what instrument you play when you obviously know you have displayed your Hotmail address.

Everybody knows that you can easily search a person with his or her email address, and curiosity, though it killed the cat, obviously doesn't make anyone a 'stalker'.

But hey, coming from someone who thinks a recording artiste are/should be paid a mere few hundred dollars for an advertising campaign...

Tim has been a consistent contributor to these forums, and one of the few people here that places an equal emphasis on logic and venomous sarcasm into his 'rants'. Seeing as we're swimming amongst a sea of has-beens, never-beens, know-it-alls, and dimwitted retards, that is a huge and sincere compliment to him. I haven't even bothered reading most of the follow-ups to this thread, but based on prior interactions with tim, I put my wholehearted support behind his arguments. It is frustrating dealing with the emotional angst of those with chips on their shoulders, and I place my empathy with tim for having to deal with it. Way too many 'mat rawkers' here claiming to know this and that, when in the end they don't even comprehend half of what they lament about.

I don't know if this is due to a lack of education, foresight, or having one too many individuals likening themselves to the incongruous being that is Mr. Insipid himself, James, but one thing is for certain - the decay and decadence of intellect in SOFT is indeed a proportionate reflection of the ridiculously limited mindset of our local music 'scene'. We should applaud individuals like tim, whose opinions are highly individualistic and worthy of mention, NOT the holier-than-thou, hypocritically altruistic moral detention that the majority of the 'scene kid' parasites shamelessly offer.

If you are about to offer a rebuttal, please, rethink. I will only respond to select individuals whom I deem worthy of a refute. After all, why should I wade amongst the wallowers of woeful witlessness?

Have you forgotten the hundred of black musicians we see in the charts? ethnicity has nothing to do with ability to sell if you have talent and the right drive and breaks to make it.

Location doesn't hurt either... Bob Marley wasn't white and he came from a nation with a population considerably smaller than our own. Didn't stop him become a musical icon.
Or we have groups like ABBA coming out of small Scandinavian countries not singing in their mother tongue and yet selling millions of records world wide.

As for if our Singapore Idols have made it... well seeing as we really don't have a music industry (all the major labels here are distributers primarily, not content creators), it only makes sense that having gained some public recognition they would go down the path of being a celebrity (hosting shows, making public appearances etc) because thats where they can actually earn money.

have they made it as local celebrity? well apparently everyone in this forum knows who they are so that means they are more famous than all of us... we don't need their email to find out their full name

I know, it's really easy to start labeling others, especially strangers and people different from you (skin colour and educational qualifications wise, as you have implied) and rely on pseudo intellectualism to brush off other contributors in this thread, as compared to debating on the facts laid out.

claire_p86 and a few others have already provided the information based on their knowledge from the people in the industry, contributing on their argument on the fact that a personality or celebrity needs to have a certain amount of appeal to be engaged to represent a product.

And Taufik Batisah, the first ever winner of SI, has proven to be popular enough, no matter if his musical achievements is nothing in Tim's eyes, that he endorses not one product but five (I think) brands, including two global brands that are 7-11 and Swatch.

So, to us 'musicians' - Taufik is no more than a dancing monkey but that dancing monkey makes some people laugh and be entertained (and has his hat full of coins too), while others choose to smirk and say "Hey, he's not a genuine performer... Tsk tsk..".

So what?

So what if you choose to beat your chest and shout that you are the alpha gorilla, when actually the dancing monkey is busy frolicking with the rest of the females in the troop?

In any argument, it is only logical to refute what you believe to be fallacy, and prove the other party otherwise, to claim any amount of credibility for yourself.

Remember too, that not everyone shares the same view of the world as you, and the best thing to do is to respect that. In a discussion like this, what I can see is that a few people have been attempting to put across facts in order to inform (though somewhat with unnecessary and maybe unintentional hostility), rather than to put down others.

Simply put, tim098 here thinks the two SIs are a complete joke but others here seem protective of them cos they can actually appreciate what Taufik and Hady stand for, and have done, no matter what kind of expectations people like tim098 have.

I've been auditioning vocalists for the past 8 months, and none
of them even come close to what we've expected. So many people flocking over to Singapore Idol when HELLO, do you guys realize that you all actually can't sing? Come on, someone prove me wrong and show me that Singapore has talent! I've seen great guitarists, great bassists, great drummers, but I can't seem to find a single vocalist that sounds decent.

now now, tim. dont get me wrong. if i were gay or a stalker, i'd choose to look at others. not saying that you're ugly or what, pls dont jump to conclusions, but just that if i were to stalk somebody, it wont be you, sorry. i wouldnt want someone who acts "hero" in here say taufik and hady not good la, but sure as hell, when given a chance to say it to their faces, his family jewels would shrink, or someone who brags that their entire social circle would say these 2 fine lads cannot make it.
