Do Singapore Vocalist Suck?

1) This world is not ideal, so is this forum. Love is cheap for word, if people wanna talk without hurting any physical object, body etc, its ok. Agree to disagree, yes!

2) Look beyond the surface of what seem like typical usual "my ballz is bigger than you" kind of responses, theres actually a lot of sense in both side, but seen from different direction.

3) stand aside and watch the event unfold. Telling them love, people love what so ever instead of listening to their points is taking 3 steps backward instead of advancing.

4) Everything will come to end when theres nothing more to say and when moderator closed the thread. So even if theres love/no love, doesnt matter

5) When a thread seem like reaching the point of no responses or slightly improved situation to end it, do not bump it up again, like what i did. Just let it die, when its time for the thread to die.

in general and imho

Ok, back to topic, local singer suck donkey ballz. Cannot sing. Oi, threadstarter, where are you, please come back and say a few word/update. Let us know if you have found a singer or just couldnt understand why this thread became like this.

Dont be like the many softies that somehow after posting a thread, getting some responses and never to come back. Hehe, even though its prolly nothing wrong, guess iam pretty amused in the way how soft is being utilised like toilet paper..

Anyway, i wrote that with no ill will. Just didnt like some of the general behaviour of those that come, get something and never return, not even a thanks or two or clearing up the mess that was started.

I've been auditioning vocalists for the past 8 months, and none
of them even come close to what we've expected.

So many people flocking over to Singapore Idol when HELLO, do
you guys realize that you all actually can't sing?

Come on, someone prove me wrong and show me that Singapore
has talent!

I've seen great guitarists, great bassists, great drummers, but I can't
seem to find a single vocalist that sounds decent.

You're just not looking in the right places.

Even if you are, it might be that the good ones are already taken.

Usually, they already are, and not only by one band.

I know of one good vocalist but plays with 3 different groups, at 4 different locations per week, how about that? I have other vocalist friends who similar stuff.

The thing is, what are YOU offering the vocalist for their time, and effort to sing with you?

If it's not worth their while, they probably wont give it a shot, much less two-cents worth of their time. Cos they've bigger, and better tasting, fish to fry.

Being in the music industry, I see a lot, and this is what I see.

Not trying to put you down buddy, but just sharing.

Getting a good vocalist in SG boils down mostly to luck. If you're lucky, you'll get a good singer, if you're super duper uber lucky, then you'll find an outstanding one.

Rock on..

Hey PatheinRaindropMoe, if it tickle you even just a bit. TGIF!!!

[back to serious mode]

If everyone on SOFT sings like Sarah Brightman or Steve Perry, our job is done. Till then, we look forward to better days.

** quick quick finish all my work before the weekend already **

Does Singapore singers sucks?

Yes
- Looking at competitions, obviously looks play more of a role than singing today, shall not name names but you all should know. From what I see from TV, people with very very mediocre singing (IMO), make it further than those who deserved better than them. I guess mainstream appeals help a lot nowadays, but really in my very honest opinion, there are tons are crap singers today (yes there are times I wonder why my TV screens is not at the longkang).

No - I have seen very very good singers, obviously shall not name names again. But those can be found around soft, I do a bit of roaming in soft to listen to different things, honestly some of them can surprise the hell out of you. Good singers usually do not brag about their vocal abilities, from what I observe.

*** Singing is like a coin, you flipped it, it falls down to either side, it is not to say the other side is not valid, they are both valid; they are both part of the coins. Let's say a good singer for example, Miljenko Matijevic, no body doubts he sings glam rock very nice, but if it was from a blues and jazz perspective/context, and he puts on screaming vocals on miles davis solos, it most probably is 'not nice'.

*** Obviously Taufik and Hady Mirza won Idol, partly of their singing (no question about it), though I may not appreciate their so called 'genre', but I guess they are not too bad in their stuff. If you screamo people do their stuff, would you be as good.

Peace :)

Yep. Freddie Mercury (real name:Farrokh Bulsara) was of Parsi decent and grew up in India.

Yeah but I read somewhere that no one (the public) had a clue to his real ethnicity till some time into his career.

From Wikipedia -

Mercury was a Parsi. The Parsis are an Indian-based Zoroastrian community. Mercury had also been criticised for having kept his ethnic origins a secret from the public. As a journalist from The Times observed, "Freddie himself always played down his Indian origins. In the few interviews he gave, he remained deliberately unclear about them."A close friend of Mercury's father related to biographer David Bret: "Farrokh Bulsara was a name he had buried. He never wanted to talk about any period in his life before he became Freddie Mercury, and everything about Freddie Mercury was a self-constructed thing.

:)

If I am not wrong, Brian May(Queen's guitarist) stated he was not proud of his origins at all, wanted to distant himself from it. Although, he is influenced by Lata Mangeshkar (From Wikipedia).
