Do Not Fall Into This 'PLAY FOR FREE GIG'!

yea guys, all of us support heartrock and the organisers for all these gigs and allowing the local bands to perform and play and showcase themselves. The chance to play and to have fun while doing it is what we like to get out of it, it's not about the money at all. they've been playing they're part in supporting the local music scene for such a long time now, they're efforts are greatly appreciated and we do not expect a 'pay' for performing.

True Voice , if you think that bands should be paid at youth concert , then the volunteers should be paid triple the amount. Bands only need to perform onstage but volunteers need to handle logistics , crowd control , registration etc. If everyone is gonna demand money for every little deed they do then our local music scene would be as good as dead....

But still I don't mind not getting paid doing volunteer work at the concert itself because I can see a bright future ahead for the local music scene through anthony's collaboration with Southeast CDC on this concert and in future events to come.

Come on lah. This is stupid man... The local music scene already so difficult you KNN still wana come and stir up this kinda nonsense.

So okay, lets just say you're really charismatic and after reading your first post say we ALL stop playing free gigs. So where do we go from there?

Will that promote professionalism?(cos everyone is getting paid)

I tell you every mother f*cker like you would wana sling a guitar and play blink182 for a quick buck.

Some gig organisers I agree DO have some pretty f*cked up ways of doing things, but looking at the track record of HeartRockSingapore, its definitely NOT one one them.

Even if its got funding from the council, the money also has strings attached, and is expected to fufil the provider's objectives. You think money & sponors so easy get ah?

Eventually, do you think gig organisers organise gigs just to earn that whatever amount thats leftover from the budget? Yeah as if the money if enough to bring home to feed a family...

set starts at 7.30pm my friend.... after that we can catch some performaces at the outdoor theatre for the mosiac... my friend awi rafael is playing at 8.45pm

Hi guys.

I started out playing at the WTC in 1995 ,youth park and all that then.

Yes, although we werent paid to play then, we appreciated the fact that our music was showcased.

We would chalk up huge cash for the countless hours of jamming in studios, trying to sound tight, and not forgetting the small things like bus fare, guitar strings, batteries and etc.

At that age, 15-18, everthing was done in the name of music, sacrifices had to be made.

Now i'm playing only for money when we get booked for gigs/functions where we are the solitary COVER(keyword)band.

I have a full time job, and this part-time money earning hobby pays pretty well for me.

I'm happy where I am, and am eternally grateful to my roots(the organisers then)

Was it worth it back then?HELL YES! Experience = $PRICELESS

Moral of the story:

everyone has to start from somewhere, with all the sacrifices and the lack of satisfactory conditions.

Use this opportunity to improve yourself, you'll be amazed at the learning experience this gives you.

True voice, just relax and let those who need this do this, its not as if the conditions are unclear, they know exactly what they are doing it for.

PS.

We didn't even get prawn crackers then :(

Have faith guys, you'll be the future of the local scene.

My 2 cents.

Ps.

No offence to anyone ah.

hey... i didnt noe about this event... i support heartrock singapore... its very true how they are trying to promote todays n young musician talents...

will there be any more coming up? im interested to showcast my band... thanks

HeartRock gigs are free of charge. So its understandable if Heartrock does not pay bands because the funding they received is going into the venue and equipment rental and such.

However there are organisers who make money out of their gigs (ticketed gigs). Some of them even ask bands to pay them in order to play! These are the organisers which should be boycotted should they not pay the bands (at least a small token sum)!

Oi FAT CAT...I'm not SAYING nor did I say ANYTHING... I'm ASKING True voice to reveal more details or proof if he has... or are YOU trying to start something with me? 8)

The true voice had made allegations against my currant frontman in the AFTER THE FIRE THREAD and I also asked him to "prove" his words then - I didnt recieve any more info from him either...at least I got a PM from Heartrock S'pore regarding the issue ....

My point is...if anyone has anything to say, better be able to provide proof...
if not....however, it doesnt mean this kind of thing doesnt exist does it?

hey ho.....let`s go!!!!!!!!!!

True voice - are you saying that theres budget all along but the org are not using to pay the bands at all?

Organizers - what do you say to this?

for ALL TO SEE MY questions.... NOT COMMENTS....

Im not startin anythin either but I'm sick & tired of ppl accusing me of things....

let's see what the_true_voice got to say. he/she had posted some similar remarks in the forum but never been able to provide more details.

i hope the_true_voice is not just creating confusion for fun.

yep james, never got a reply nor pm or anything.... but as the saying goes " better to never leave any stone unturned" ....

The allegations by the true voice are serious matters. He is accusing me of taking fundings and not paying the bands for it, meaning I pocketed the money.

I will have to see if this persist, how this matter is being handled by James and will decide what to do thereafter.

Just imagine the NAC reads things like that, do you think they will continue to fund HeartRock to do more gigs for young and untried bands? So the reputation has to be defended vigorously.

FATCAT, I do not think fgl is of any malice though the posting did not defend my position thus it looks it is the other way. He asked the organizer to reply and I did through pm not putting any of the performing bands into aawkwardness.

PEACE
