Distortion pedal recommendation

haha the looks like you got them hooked onto another barber product johnathan..
I havent heard it yet but from what i know, barber makes products that are value for money..

There are a couple of distortions out there that are value for money..
Since we're going in the line of reasonable gain, try this:

Fulltone OCD (usually sells for $240 used)
Versatile pedal, if you need more info on the versions, let me know, i've tried v1,v3 and v4.

Boss DS-1 MIJ (try your best to find it, quite rare but cheap)
I've tried all the versions, mit,mij and silver screw.. None stayed on my board for more than a month because i have major gas.
But they're great for chord work and you need something to back the bass and mids up for lead tones.
A thing to note would be your pickups and amp.. More technical issues like the output etc..

Nevertheless, $200 could get you a decent distortion pedal. All the best bro.

Metalzone sucks imo. Get Mi Audio crunchbox very versatile and sweet sounding , alot of gain enough to do from rock to heavy metal. You can get it from Ebenex or G77 probably cost $200. Another pedal you can try is Tech 21 Sansamp GT2 also very flexible definately gotta check that out.

personally i think metal requires a distortion for metal and metal only.

getting a single effect that suits those u mentioned might leave u disappointed...unless maybe u're just playing at home with a practice amp...then all those mentioned would suffice actually.

u could consider the HARDWIRE series as well available at Swee Lee.

HARDWIRE Metal Distortion =)

I've heard an MT-2 and I really don't think it's worth the money. The tone is just horrible. Thin and overly trebly. Talking about the stock ones here. The modded ones are better and you should be able to get them secondhand for less than $200.

I personally don't like even the modded ones :?

personally i think metal requires a distortion for metal and metal only.

I kinda agree on that point. You might need to split that $200 for 2 different pedals.

get Digitech hardwire metal distortion can get from swee lee but very ex, best is get online much cheaper like on ebay.
or get BK butler tube driver. so far this is the best tube driver pedal I ever heard but u have to get it online from the manufacturer it's about 400-500 good investment though.

Yeah!! Dirty Bomb is the BOMB!!

dirty bomb? Op-amp based ah? if it is, where go mojo?

just get a seventheaven.....i use it for everything from jazz to metal and its been my mainstay pedal for about 7 months now (which is kinda amazing since i change my rig all the time)

and ppl whom i intro the pedal to and a/b their main dirt pedals end up getting it. No joke.

Yeah!! Dirty Bomb is the BOMB!!

Not bad at all. It has a different sound from the 7th and its pretty impressive actually. I find the Dirty Bomb sounds & feels like a 7th with a booster pushing it.

And at $160 - its a no-brainer.

Might want to take note though, I think its the power supply in TY, but the Dirty Bomb I tried there had some noise. All the demos on youtube have little noise.

still shouldnt rule out pedals because they're op amp based.. some of them sound much better than sound jfet based effects

jfet is the way to go if you want to emulate a cranked tube amp signal path..... And the dirty bomb is cascading FET with mosfet distortion. My bad! Looks like Barber also has a non-opamp trick up his sleeve...

Of course...it takes good ears and tweaking to get there as well....some people just wont get it.

shredcow....very interesting. Maybe i'll give it a whirl.....but noise is quite a turn off for me especially at gig volumes. Which is the main issue I had with the crunchbox. Does the dirty bomb have as much clarity at high gain compared to the 7th?
