Distortion pedal recommendation

shredcow....very interesting. Maybe i'll give it a whirl.....but noise is quite a turn off for me especially at gig volumes. Which is the main issue I had with the crunchbox. Does the dirty bomb have as much clarity at high gain compared to the 7th?

I don't know about the noise - like I said, I think it could be the power supply in TY, it could be the amp... its definitely not the guitar (EMGs) and not the fingers (hahahaha...). The demos on youtube by Gearman and PGS, little noise, if any. Both look like they use batteries.

The volume knob on your guitar + the footswitch on the pedal are there to help with the noise.

The Dirty Bomb actually sounds more sludge-y at high gain. I'm talking modern chugga kind of high high gain stuff. The kind that notes seem to meld together into one huge chug? Heh. The thing feels like a RAT when playing leads. That kind of compression.

jfet is the way to go if you want to emulate a cranked tube amp signal path.....

yeah thats true. but i'm saying that jfet based pedal deosnt always > op-amp based pedal. u heard the subdecay blackstar right? cascading jfets, i didnt like its characteristics at all. on the other hand i've heard some pretty spectacular op-amp based pedals.

Cool. just heard the clips done by PGS and Germandude.... You'r right. there's this tinge of fizz/fuzz character that has that RAT vibe going. Sounds kinda saturated and compressed too, even at lower gain settings.

Does it clean up with your guitar's volume knob?

haha i agree with you bro, i for one likes an op-amp based pedals like my mij DS-1 to push my 7th for leads. just depends on what purpose you use it for. I still like those kinda pedals as front end preamp boosters where that compression/tightness is much needed. Anyways im just joking around poking fun at "oh its another op-amp based pedal again" like those guys at FSB. Nothing to be taken seriously there:mrgreen:

Anyways i agree the blackstar sucks so i dint bother going about doing any research on it. Its jfet based? wow i never knew. haha.

spectacular op-amp based pedals? Try the Tonezcar Dove 8)

heh, you guys talk jfet, mosfet, opamp etc lah. Hear from goose one or got play with those on breadboard circuit and came to know whats behind those thingy?

i study those last time, play with it in lab, at home, on breadboard and still, couldnt be too bothered with it in term of audio.

Sound good can liao lah, dont make those components term into some mojo terms which for the next gen of geetarers becoming some special thingy.

try checking out the diy effect forums, those fellas in there built, design new circuit and share it openly. You wont find them talking much the circuit just looking at transistor or op amp only. The analysis of the whole circuit is far more interesting then a transistor stage

imho

wah lao.. come to think of it, i've nvr even spoken to goose before..

ized, u gotta call me sometime soon!

I never tweak with it myself.

So I learnt and I shaddup about it nowadays.

I just play the damn thing.

And rely on Unobtainium and the startling fact that an ic chipper still don't seem to sound as big as transistor based drives...

*sense the irony?*

i trust your hearing and the way you lookie at things. Irony, so be it..

i hope the comment didnt really pissed off anyone. Just reflecting some observation somehow.

heh, anyway dont have to take it too seriously, if wanna disagree, just go ahead. Afterall, its coming from someone who have not been doing anything useful/musically/playing geetar for so long..
