Customer Service in Guitar stores

Friends,

Please, please do not be timid as a customer. Know your rights. It doesn't matter if you're 12 year old in school uniform browsing at a guitar store, or if you walk in with a pair of shoes damp at the bottom. Would he have said the same if money was flashed right before him? It's perfect idiots like these who spoil the show for many.

I can't remember the countless times I have told off sales assistants at Swee Lee and Davis. For me these are the notorious ones who leave customer service a lot to be desired. Simply put, they suck, although they have improved a bit.

My last encounter was at Davis about a year ago. The bespectacled man - you know who you are - who told me he needed to use the cable I was using because someone else needed to try out something - he got a deservedly good one from me.

If you feel you're not treated fairly, stand up and speak up for yourself. If you're told to handover that guitar after 3 minutes of trying it out, tell the salesperson you need more time.

At the end of the day, make sure you achieve that objective of why you stepped into the store in the first place. It's as simple as that.

i dunno .. but i get uncomfortable when the peeps approach me in the shop..true enuff they are the helpfull people.. but i just dun like the idea of 'constantly guiding' the customer ard in a small shop..its just me.. and abt SL..the onli time when i try the guitars are when they offer me...i dun rely dare come in and pick up one from the racks.. furthest i do is just look closely..wimp..

i would step on anyone's shoe who flash money in front of me. throw my ntuc plastic bag at him.

please lah, respect others and be respected in return.

 hahaha, i cannot imagine mr. Soft doing that, but ya, i got the point! still very funny mental image though.. :smt116

only thing i can't stand about people working in Music shops is the "I know more about the shit than you" attitute.

I mean "dude .... cool it ... you are the sales person, it's your job to know stuff, it's business man!"

Had bad experience with City Music and Swee Lee .... it's only when you pick up and play the guitar before their expressions change ... :?

At least nowadays the younger generation need not withstand the wrath of Uncle George...

I was so afraid to step into guitar stores because of him when I was starting out...

You should try taking out the guitar from the stand...when their expression changes, put back...and then take out and put back and see how their expression changes, lol...

Hmm.

I think it all boils down to this:

1. as long as you consciously treat the guitars on display with care you need no fear of the salespeople.

2. so what if they give you a sour face? you know you're not mistreating the guitars right?

3. asking specific, non-lame questions allows them to understand that you, the customer are interested (in whatever you want to try out).. instead of some joker who has nth better to do and just come in a play for so long.

4. showing off your wealth doesn't give other people a good impression.. I mean.. what? you wanna hao lian for what, right? Let's all be humble. :)

crawldaddy:i dun think the issue is of morality in the first place, the issue boils down to this....I am paying the same amount for something in different guitar stores....what value added benefits can i get?simple as that....if the same product is selling at the same price...i think the salesperson who does his job well is gonna sell the product.... :D
kudos to guitar77,the guys there rock.....and the guitars....scheter...drooooooooool....

gone are the mid 80s, where u'd be just checking out gear at that famous store. [mind u not even testing it...YET] then u'll hear a loud voice shout out, 'those not buying anything, can leave now'. more or less, 20 years later, now its the 'look' eh :)

well on a brighter note i spent an hour yest playing on a fabulous scheter guitar that is by far the best looking guitar i ever seen...ran it through the whole visual sound setup into a huge fender tube amp....tone never sounded so good...mm...tubes....drool :D

had a bad experience with SL before . They jus plainly ignore me when I asked politely to try out a pedal and the whole shop was pretty empty and the guy i approached jus pretend to be busy walking around doin nothin much. I think the bigger shops such as SL are jus takin things for granted, i mean they have the most popular brand of guitars Ibanez, fenders, gibsons..most popular brand of pedals boss, jim dunlop, digitech. think their mentality will be that even if they give u shitty service u will still come back cos they have wat u want.

The only place i feel comfortable tryin out gear are luther, music theme/ranking sports, citymusic and yamaha.

Hmm.

LOL, blue powder.. I'd take a Gibson '59 Les Paul reissue anyday.. over any other guitar. Burstbuckers.. droooollll
