My setup is slowly building up the way i want it...so here are some reviews:
Just got my New Skreddy Siren(screwdriver with the new smokey mod and pregain trimmer):
still in the honey moon phase....after the first 3 hours of playing without tweaking the brightness knob or the pregain knob....it is everything that daniel always said about it with a cherry on top...i am playing it with Evos...so mine sound very dark....as compared to Shreds....but I have this slight feeling that there is a lil difference now...its 'richer'..im talking tube like thickness...MUST A/B daniels....it goes to insane gain...didnt think it went that high....touch sensitive...dynamic....twangy if u want...fuzzy if u want( not a real fuzz) but a pseudo fuzz like quality....perfect for what i want...rock..classic rock...led zep..hendrix....combine it with my french toast(randolf modded soon)...should be some hendrix madness.....after messing with the pregain knob....i was shocked....you are looking at a turning a slightly fuzz like distortion with an ever so light color...to a clear focussed overdrive/distortion......have to mess around and find where i like the pregain to be...not messing with the brilliance as of yet...i think its set well...maybe will take it down 10%...
using the screwdriver as my main rhythm sound..turn down teh volume knob and play clean as a whistle....for my solos...i have been running the screwdriver into ...
The lovepedal Lo: thick poweramp(El34 emulation) overdrive....adds a lil bit of gain to it...smoothens it a lil....adds some mids....very open and transparent...just the kind for the solo boost....and works beautifully the other way round too...
using the Lo for rhythm and set the screwdriver for very low gain to boost it for solos.....add the slight twanginess and the 'golden' colour....well golden to me anyways....
For my metal needs....ToneBone Hot British...Megadeth in a box....Holy Wars all the way.....but thats about all it will do.....not an island pedal..but wil definitely do metal better than a digital pedal or an MT-2 for that matter.
Budda Wah: the most unique wah I have played...and for that simple reason I love it and am gonna keep it....not the kinda wah where u can just rock back and forth whle playing...the sweep is designed in a very intelligent way...controlled use of it without goin to the end positions gives it the usual wah feel...or like i call it...the KAAOOOWAAA bends....go between the extreme positions....can do a very nice vox style or actually...perfect for...the audience is listening.....Its not an RMC in terms of tweakability and options...but its got its own thing going....am gonna keep this one atleast till I find somethign it cant do....
On the way: a few more goodies...
runnign my setup currently as:
Ibanez RG1550 Prestige(w/ EVOS) -> Budda Wah -> Screwdriver -> Lovepedal Lo ->Tonebone Hot British-> Roland Jazz Chorus 50
still thinking about where to place the french toast....
I really wanna look into some modulation....i like the 80s chorus...i mean its the sound ive known....i like the vibe and the phaser...never really used them much....im looking to add just a mild shimmer to my clean sound.....
The Screwdriver simply rocks. Its already one of THE best ods out there, there are people who prefer it to the much famed Eternity. Very cool. Marc is doing a heck of a job morphing it into such a versatile beast.
I'm kind of.. sad to see the fuzz side become less prominent, I thought that was a major unique point of the Screwdriver.
Nonetheless, its about time to purchase the new model. Malcolm and I are considering.
Daniel: man the next week...is the kinda week where i become the single largest consumer of coffee in the asia pacific....
after that....after 16th....we must have a jam session...and you and malcolm MUST check out the Siren and the Lo....I have a feeling you will like the new mods....
dont worry...the old fuzz is very much there....but once the pregain is lowered...it reduces considerably...its useful because in a lot of scenarios you can take the sharpness to complete zero and still have a popularly more useable sound..if u know what i mean...
So whatsay...is it time...for another gear convention
Now that would be a funny comparison....comparing even the best modeller to one of the best boutique analog overdrives....i mean even the highest gain tone of the gt-8(supposedly what its good for) cant compare to even teh hot british....
Very cool... there's a very very mild mid boost there when its on, otherwise, its pretty neat no? It doesn't sound boxed up from the vid, but we need to listen to that in person.
