Boutique Gear: When did you fall for them?

ya shredcow, i dunno how it looks like. i hope to make my overall sound darker.

i opened it and all i see are electronics eh. pardon my noobiness :D

It should be a trim pot no?

Google for trim potentiometer (spelling?) :P

Its like ... a screw head, cross head, kind of plastic thing... hehehe... be gentle.

lol

yeah.. dun accidentally break a wire of something! haha.. lol.. hmm any dist pedals to recommend me? distortion and od pedals..haha the main part.

mellapong:

The trimpot in the crunchbox is... a small blue square with a white circle in the middle. You can use a small flathead screwdriver (or a pick) to adjust.

See here http://www.analogman.com/graphics/bichorusinsides.jpg
Not the same pedal but the trimpot looks exactly the same. Look at the pedal on the right. It's the small blue square slightly lower left of the pedal's centre.

As mentioned the internal presence allows you to adjust how bright or dark you want the pedal to be. Extremely useful. Just play around with it... the effect is obvious enough.

Hmmm you must be one of the first to complain about the crunch box not being dark enough. What guitar do you use? What amp do you usually play into?

Am not really a pedal mania but i saw this one locally and just had to have it. Yes its a mesa, n yeah it can chugga chugga but it can do other stuff as well. Low gain is great for BLUUUEES. It also works as a preamp am using it with a headphone amp as my practice set...

v-1 bottle rocket i think..alex used to play with the v-twin, how does this compare?

Alex and I used that V Twin before... think I posted somewhere in the forum.

Low end was not well defined, muddy. Can't do metal without a TS9 pushing, stock ts9 with bass cut, to tighten it up.

Can do blues. But heck. Blues?!? Alex & Blues?! Alex is SHRED!!!!!! Only shredcow plays the blues!!

600 buckeroos, to play the blues. :D

need.... floyd.... rose... else... cannot... be ... creative.... nooooo....

But its interesting.

Schaller bridges eh. Nice touch there. I liek the switching options.

thanks shredcow and rearviewmirror, i found the control already.

rearviewmirror - ya the new version of the crunchbox is still quite dark, but my pickup-guitar combination just has too much treble, get very irrtating on the ears. i am using SD alnico pros on an epi lp. and when i turn down the tone knob i lose a lot of grittiness somehow, and my amp cables all faulty, ha. so was wondering what i could do with the pressence control

Mellapong, try using 500k vol pots, to brighten up your tone a little.

Or use smaller (is it smaller or bigger?) value capacitors to reduce some of the treble bleed.

mellapong, i play a tele with huge ass singles (not quite soapbars), and almost exclusively with the bridge pickup, and my non-updated crunch box is still a little darker than i'd like at most settings. shredcow's probably got a point about the pots.

Hey Mella,

I felt that the Crucnh box was quite dark... i had my tone knob to almost maximum to get my desired distortion sound but i am really loving it...
the internal presence knob is there to brighten up the sound?
maybe i will try tonight haha

This one i got is the overdrive, Mesa V1 Bottle Rocket tube overdrive, and its the one that was posted on luthers. Its quite a good deal hehe as ive been watching ebay prices have been sky rocketing as it has been discontinued. It is an overdrive with tonnes of gain on tap but its not yet a distortion as yet IMO. V smooth crunch overdrive courtesy of the 2 12ax7 tubes running hot. Its voiced differently from the Vtwin, more vintage sounding, say more mesa Mark series than the recto. The tones isa distinctly mesa but with a vintage twist. I havent had the chance to run it with my rivera tube amp as its undergoing retubing with randolf, can't wait. Through my ss bass amp its sounded quite sweet. I like the PRS to Mesa tone courtesy of Creed/Nickelback/Alaterbridge, yesh its lame but hey each to his own. Its a good way of getting close to a mesa tone on a budget of course you would need to use a respectable amp too hehehe
Am enjoying this one loads hehe

eh Leb, having fun with it? i told you i was quite disappointed but the next day i just couldnt put down the guitar. really great sound i can get out of it. :D :D

ya, i also have some screechy sound coming out of the amp when i use my tone pot, i guess i will get them changed soon.

eh can anyone help me? i use my VS H20 to add dimesion for my leads with my crunchbox, sounds very very good. however i get a fairly big volume boost. is it supposed to be like that??

Chimera, that is sweet. Any chance of some clips of the Bottle Rocket? I'd like to hear how it fares with vol knob adjustments.

Mellapong, you mean when you use the H2O's chorus or echo effect?

Btw, guys, a rehoused Boss CE-2 is the next best thing to sliced bread.
