Boutique Gear: When did you fall for them?

i believe, a defination of boutique = not easily available, expensive, rarer in that fewer pieces are made. they also tend to be hand assembled.

the malcolm mentioned is empty71 i think.

btw, anyone here has tried the keeley katana? if yes, any comments? i've been following the thread, really cool stuff u guys discuss about. stirs up the GAS monster inside =D

Hey, abt the Echoczar, there is an add on accessory right? Some angel thing? You intend to get that too I hope? So we can all come try it out. Hehehehehe

Ah, the Keeley Comp.... how do you like it? It apparently colours tone still, but its a very good comp.

The add on is called Angelbaby, basically adds a third channel of modulation.

I like the Keeley Compressor alot. In fact I got it in mudshark yellow colour. It's something I couldn't justify plonking a huge chunk of change (USD$240++ with shipping) for until recently when I sold my mark tremonti power wah and voodoo labs analog chorus. So far like the fact it can do some good squashing or act as a lead boost. Other comps worth mentioning are analogman bi-comp/comp, diamond compressor and of course barber tone press.

For other cool overdrives check out the Hermida Zendrive, Klon Centaur and the Crusack Screamer.

Nice one CJOD, never thought anyone had it in SG. At least for echoczar I know a guy or two ordered and receive it early in the production.

By the way just to add some more awesome OD. BJF (There's a few so depends on what you want), Lovepedal COT/COT 50 and the pretty famous Eternity (USD$289).

Thank goodness there's MI Audio. You guys should REALLY try some of the stuff. Boutique stuff at not so boutique pricing. Mostly USD$99 or less which IMO is a steal. I got the Crunch Box it's so good.. Cleans up pretty well. Check out www.miaudio.com :smt003

Cool to know and see people that know of and use M.I Audio stuff. I too have a crunch box and blues pro on my board. Micheal makes some really killer pedals at a great price. Really looking forward to his phaser/vibe unit that is in the works.

The blues pro is almost the same price, if not cheaper then the ts-9 locally. Probably one of the best light overdrive and boost pedals around. Those who feel the Xotic boosters are too ex, should definitely give this a try. i a/b-ed one with a RC booster and it just kicked the RC's ass at a price thats $140 cheaper. Both were transparent with very responsive controls, but the RC sounded really thin on the upper-mids and highs.

ShredCow, you ever heard of the Clay Jones overdrive? Only 50 ever made and he refuses to make anymore. TheGrooveKing recently bought 2 for US$900 each.

Sweet!!!! :) At least you know you got some cash, in case you ever gas for that sweet new expensive guitar! :)

My hellbilly has been discontinued too... 120 made... reached 500USD on evilbay.

This M.I. Audio thing sounds very good... shall check it up in due time. Thanks for the tip guys!

Oooo.. its great to see this thread growing! :D

Yo Lifehouse,

when did you order the timmy, talked to Paul C last week he said theres a 7 8 week wait, but im guessing its closer to 3 to 4 months. Friend of mine ordered 2 in november and it still isn't here yet.

Hope he restocks the Blues Pro soon. I guess it would bump the bad monkey off my board.

I ordered late Dec. Guess its a long wait. So far he hasn't responded to my email so guess I'd need to call him when its near my batch of Timmy.

Yup and he thought he had bought enough parts for two years of stock. lol. You could try the other online pedal shops, i think tonefactor still has the blues pros in stocks.

The crunch box and blues pro really compliment each other well. Both are pretty silent pedals but expect some noise when u switch them both on together, especially using the blues pro to boost the crunch box. Considering if i should get a ISP decimator. The boss ns-2 just sucks balls. For now, I can live with it since i only have both on for solos and immediatly turn the boost off if when the solo is done.

Hi,
I know of mrmisse's website ... but how about the rest where I can find what all of you had mentioned ? like the screwdriver etc ?
thx

Wah .. the M.I audio seems to be getting very rave reviews ah ...
brandon..next week i wanna try leh...

i dont really have any boutique pedals... maybe except the Barber Direct Drive SS that malcom sold me... that is very very special... next up might be a katana boost pedal... as im moving away from a dist tone + OD pedal set to boost ...for my solos..

preserving my main dist/od tone and just adding volume for solos is priority now...

currently im using a vol pedal into the barber ddss -->visual sound J&H --- H20 ---> a boss BF-2 and my BBE sonic stomp. No intentions for a wah .. but its im gonna get one... its gonna be a budda...

but with all these pedals... im actually not getting maximum mileage with other amps in jamming studios etc...including my own 5150.
so will consider the twin reverb or deluxe reverb... these amps love pedals...

Yeah just give me a call and come over , still need to return you your J & H also.

Chan you should give the M.I Audio Blues Pro a run first before deciding on the keeley katana boost. It serves as a clean boost also with the gain down and with a +25db added volume, theres all the boost you need. Not to mention the katana is also two times the price. It definitely retains your original tone and just makes it better.

After getting these nice gain pedals, i feel as if i don't go all out on the gain channel on my amp anymore. Feel like switching to a one channel tube amp, set the amp to have some light gain and control the gain with my pedals and volume. Something like a Laney Gh50L would be ideal but if i have money some say....a conford.

eh brandon ... after being with you in your journey as a guitarist.. i tell you la...
just follow me buy fender tube amp ... play clean channel ... and use pedals...
save money ...next time you sell/buy again waste money...

remember " i will never play anything digital " ..... " ibanez is for pussies "
then 2 yrs later " check out my RG!!! " ... " my POD XT !!!"

then 2 yrs later " screw digital ... tube amp and pedals "

hahahahaha.... i will haunt you for life la bro..

will check out the blues pro like you suggested.... but i have enough OD , dist units already leh.... clean boost seems more... functional.. cus its...er clean.. transparent.

In response to ciel21's post

The crunch box is like what is described on the site. An old school marshall on steriods. The usual middy characteristics are there but not as pronounced as like on the marshall amps, so think of it as like a soldano. Modern marshalls really turn me off, so initally i was a little scared to order it. But, i bit the bullet anyway and ordered one.

Its god damn friggin loud cause i have the pedal volume on at 2 or 3 only, really surprised. Alot of gain on tap, but its more for stuff in the vein of 80s and 90s hard rock esque stuff. Mr. Big, Whitesnake, Extreme etc. Not really suitable for metal and heavier stuff, unless you have something like a ge-7 for it. Tone controls are responsive and really cuts through.

The pedal really does alot in between, light to medium overdrive to high gain. All of them sound good and usable unlike most distortion and overdrive pedals which are one trick ponys.

Something really worth checking out and it costs the same and if not lesser then alot of boss and ibanez pedals.

Boost?

Demeter Mid Boost anyone?

Its got a VERY natural mid boost.... and if wired without buffer (True Bypass). there is a nice vol boost. Excellent for cutting thru.

Or if wired buffered, you have little vol boost... but the mids are all there. Terrific for turning single coils into really fat things similiar to humbuckers.

Conford - now we're talking real boutique money here.

Looking for a good distortion box, using Death Rattle right now, looking for a change. One thing i'll miss is the versertility of having a OD/Distortion in 1 box. Auditioned a RC a while back, was blown off my sock gonna go get it from mrmisse tmr. Maybe will try out a blues pro later.
