Boutique Gear: When did you fall for them?

Lifehouse, aye, they do sound very different from the clips but it would be great to have an A/B test, thats what the TGPer told me, ab-ed and the Blackstone lost!

According to his ears mah, not mine or ours hehe. Hopefully, I'll have an E coming soon then we'll see on our next jam. So your Goblin how?

Goblin wait lah, gathering funds. 8)

Been selling off stuff that i don't need.. hehe...

Transformer how ah? Or do you have a model number? I will go find it.

guys.....

i got my Blackstar!! and my Flying Tomato Fuzz!!

:D

from playing with the Blackstar so far, i find that it can create much chunkier, ballsier distortion compared to my J&H, due to the dual Drive controls (one for the lower frequencies, one for higher frequencies. much better than a simple tone control - which it does have as well). oh, and it cleans up real well with the volume knob too, can get bluesy OD if u wish.

the Flying Tomato has settings for almost any kinda fuzz... and can do the bleepy, syncopated weird stuff too! very happy with that as well... but i'm new to fuzz... so maybe another evaluation down the road will be more telling.

will post pics soon

WANT A SKREDDY TOP FUEL?

I'm abt to purchase a Zvex Vector Fuzz Factory, the guy selling it has a Skreddy Top Fuel for sale @ 160USD (like 30USD off original price). TF is in great condition.

You'd pay 160USD + 12USD shipping.

If anyone is interested, pm me, and you must be able to fork out the dough by today. Else, I'd just take the Fuzz Factory. 8)

Hey MrE. are we meeting? I've you on msn, but can't see you around.

Why post clips when you can hear it and play it? How a pedal interacts with you is just as impt as its tone.

Hi bros, how is the blackstar? The bro who got it...any feedback...

it is i :D

it is very high gain, firstly.

the two drive control knobs give very good versatility, when upping the lower drive setting, can get very thick distortion because it distorts the lower frequencies more...

in general, it has very 'open' and gritty tones.... not too compressed. tone knob is quite useable across a wide spectrum.

with vol knob rolled down, u get nice dirty blues overdrive

Okay it must seem really shallow of me but the Blackstar is appealing to me as well, after reading all about it here and at other places.

It appeals even more to me, because I've been speaking to people, and they are telling me the Blackstar has flat mids. That is what's making me tick for the Blackstar. Flat mids. Plus its touch sensitive, but how sensitive, i dunno, I can hear the punchiness thru the clips on Subdecay.com but I want to hear a ripping solo with it.

I do know, from just the clips, that it will rip apart an MT-2. Okay, fine, almost every distortion pedal out there rips apart the stock MT-2...

MrE, how does it compare to staple 'Metal' pedals like the venerable Boss MT-2 and your J&H?

well... the J&H has less gain - which is not a bad thing. for those who understand distortion pedals, you know that you can get better crunch with less gain. compared to the J&H, the Blackstar's tone has more.... character? the Blackstar sounds 'hairier' in a way... like alot of harmonics? the J&H sounds relatively tighter compared to the Blackstar

Blackstar gives more control over the distortion character than the J&H. J&H is good for tighter rhythm perhaps... but i havent experimented in full yet, i'm pretty sure i could do the same or better with the Blackstar if i try lower gain settings.
