Boutique Gear: When did you fall for them?

Like what michael has described, the crunch box was designed to be like a marshall on steroids. Think of it as a building block for the EVH brown sound kind of pedal, it's around that kind of tone at least to me.

I haven't received my tube zone to give you a proper description of how it sounds personally to me. Hope that helps and Lifehouse could chip in with what he hears too :D

Thanks dan I guess I look for a GT2 to try. I hope Esden has one in stock. Dan doesn't prefer the GT2 over the triac, it's just a fact that the triac can't do chugga as well as the gt2. The triac is still the more versatile pedal tho.

aye, SanXP got it... I don't prefer the GT2 over the TRI AC, but the GT2 owns the TRI AC when it comes to gain and uber chugga.

The GT2 (brit) does sound tighter than the Tube Zone from that I heard... BUT... the GT2 isn't as dynamic/uncompressed as the Tube Zone.

You can't really have the best of both worlds...

Do check out the Black Star (google it) distortion pedal for mind boogeling harmonics. yes, its uber hi gain.

Hmmm.... i think you need to have some harshness in your tone, somewhere.... I'm interpreting harshness as having a hairy kind of gain.

If you were to go TS9 smooth all the way, they lack the grit for more aggressive playing.... and its not as articulate.

There's a tone control on the black star aye? :)

Hey lifehouse you receieved your timmy yet. My friend just got his apparently Paul C (the maker) told him his was the first 2 shipped to singapore. A quick low down on the timmy. It has 4 knobs, gain, vol, bass and treble. I compared it to the SD1, the only pedal i had that was similar to the TS9. The timmy is much clearer and articulate than the SD1 a more hi-fi ish kinda sound with out the mid hump. It was clearer and tighter than the SD1 with moer of a flat eq reponse.

A bad thing abt is that it doesnt clean up very well, it gets sort of thinny(no pun intended) sounding. A reason might be because it doesn have the mid hump to give it a bit of meat with the guitar vol turned down unlike the SD1. In the circuit there are 2 dip switches, we din have the manual so we just fiddled with it and with the dip switches turn up, the sound become more compressed. Anyone gt a manual that says wat the dip switches actually do?

Anyway we only fiddled with it for a short while, its totally different than tubescreamer style pedals so i cant say its better or worse its just differernt but a nice kind of different.

Lifehouse let me know what you think of it when you get yours mine is still at least a few months away, will have a tim with my order also let u guys know how it sounds thn. :D

Not too sure whether this qualify...

Was surfing around at other music forums and saw this recommendation... The design is really nice, just to share share... I sure like to listen to a sample 8)

Valvetech Amp

The ValveTech amp does vintage clean to metal scream, but it only has 6 knobs! (OK, as many as 8 if you add reverb and effects loop). Use it like an old four-input amp, or a modern, hyper-gain switching machine!

How different are they Lifehouse? I'm interested in either one for playing metal style music. I currently own a triac boosted with a randolfed sd-1 and my tone isn't as tight as I want it to be.

What amp are you using?

I'd like to share some tips here regarding attaing a tighter kind of "chugga chugga" tone. The reason most pedals sound moshed with any amp is because there's too much gain or distortion at the preamp stage ie. from the pedals and the amp's preamp gain.

Try lowering the pre gain and max out the power section and use your fuzz, overdrive or dist pedal stock or modded and crank the output full.

The next important stage is to observe your tone settings on the amp and the pedals. The ultimate "hair moving" thump effect that you can get is actually with a 4 x 12 half stack or full stack with the mic preferably a SM57 placed real close to one of the speakers. Move this mic in small increments to the side for the desired tone.

The "thump" effect is actually the cabinet design and the tightness is in the choices of speakers and the miking technique.

You can try this with amp and speaker modelled technology devices though a simulation at best they do come close enough in most cases.

A rather clean smarvo 40w 12".

Hey randolf thanks for the tip, I'll fiddle around with what I have with that idea in mind.

Think they are china made tube combos, look suprisly like marshalls heheh. Din like the on i played at all.. the 100watt tru the stack at ranking, dirt cheap though 600 for a head.

Not all are tube. In fact more are SS with the exception of 1 or 2.

Actually regarding your questions earlier, try turning ur gain down and crank your amp louder. At least thats what I do for my tube amp.
