To a typical Singaporean, black metal does somehow or other relate to occultism/satanism.
And I do not, in any way, mean to be racist when I make the following comment. While it might not be true that the amount of black metal music listeners are young melay kids, it sure seems that way.
Me, I know better then to connect black metal and satan-worshipping angst melay teenagers together, but that's the problem with society, especially the Singaporean one, they tend to make assumptions based on their extremely limited knowledge.
I am sure that there are as many malay teenagers who listen to black metal and loose their focus in life as there are chinese teenagers who listen to techno and loose their focus in life.
I might not be crazy about metal, but hey, I have a few friends who are really into it, play the music at night, but are students who do well, doctors and even lawyers during the day. Okay, scratch the lawyer bit, they are all going to hell anyway  .
(That last part was just a joke, so please, don't sue me)
So, that programme might show something really not true, but think about it, it sure isn't the first, and definately wouldn't be the last to show the "un-truths" of the local community and the world. The media are just looking for "targets", and the entertainment industry is always the first to take the hit.
Violence, occult worship, and anything bad imaginable has always been blamed on movies, late-night TV programmes, video games, music (the "bad" types that is) and so on. It is never going to stop, people are always going to push the blame to the above-mentioned when they can, when the problem obviously lies with themselves, and their upbringing. Yes, I mean their parents.
So, just watch it with a pinch of salt, laugh at how naive and uninformed the media can be, bitch about it at your local kopi-tiam with your friends, and go to sleep at night knowing that, for at least one topic, you know more then someone else.
