Baybeats and its lost lambs thread. We got something to say thread

well the purpose of esplanade was to support music. esp local music, and so they said. So since a portion of our taxes have gone there why not ask for their support.

besides making ppl pay to enter , mite aswell let them watch it for free at baybeats. I have organized my own gig such as Rock Unity ones b4. but then again how big a scale could a DIY reach. Masses of Esplanade ? a bit hard la bro. what we need is a event like a baybeats scale for heavier bands.

I am on if anyone wants to werk on this. a gig where the crowd does not need to pay to watch.

esplanade is a art hub for singapore. Locale music just that tiny little part. The people who bring in money for the running of esplanade yearly are not us, aka those into locale music and wanting free shows to rock out and fullfill the angst in us.

tax goes to infrastrature we live in, including roads, lampost, rubbish bin, education for the youngs. Anything and everything, but just not music. The basic of life need to be fulfilled first, before we can even think about something like music for us to rock out

free is grand in idea, but failure in execution and long term advancement and progression

imho that is. Feel free to wack!

I for one would LOVE to see quality local music better represented at any gig or event, Baybeats or anywhere else.

To understand the organizers' decision-making it's best to put yourselves in their shoes.

They have hundreds, possibily thousands of applications. It's extremely tiring and fatiguing to listen to and critique a thousand tracks and be completely objective about it.

They have a duty to ensure safety and security- if anybody gets severely injured or killed by a kung fu mosher, who is going to be responsible?

I completely agree that the music is not being properly represented and that something should be done about it, I just want to be that little voice that points out that it's not an easy job, and the music scene is still better off with baybeats than without it :)

Mostly the people a going there are usually kids.. They think it's a grand event so they come down and create such a nuisance.. Like you said it's a indie/alternative event.. I don't see why, no offence to the bands, like one buck short, ava etc have the chance to perform..

Bands like B-quartet are the most deserving bands to perform on that particular event.. There should be more bands like them.. Since non indie bands get to perform, why don't my band get to perform.. Will those kids come down and support?

Okay lah, I think most arts institutions need to balance the books and the P&L sheet at the end of the year.

Fort Canning rental fee = $1,400
Stage and equipment rental = $30,000
Price of festival ticket = priceless

visa

Alrite Visa . Maybe Organisers should place themselves in the bands shoes aswell. If they ask for demos to be send in , then they jolly well take a listen to all of them and actually let ppl know the kinda genre they are going for . If its just for the formalities then maybe they should just pick the bands they already have in mind to play. We arent talking just about baybeats here but also other events that could be held in the esplanade . heavier stuff and not being bias about it.

Crowd is one thing . Crowd control is another. I have seen ppl in moshpits and even been in them. ppl behaved themselves at big scale events like at black sabbath , slip knot . yes some moshed but no one died and no one got hurt. I mean dude this is Rock and Roll singapura afterall. and not a kindergarden where kids arent capable of looking out for each other. i think the big concerts that we have been to speaks alot about how mature singaporeans can be if they want to and yet have fun.

The esplanade is still answerable to the bottomline=$$. besides, they have great festivals like huayi, mosaic etc, which are profit generating events.

you can ask for support, but have some backing, since you have done gigs before, just add them to your portfolio.

if u want it free, the only way to go are sponsors and meeting sponsor requirements. but most of them would only want to give their own stuff and not cash. so i would advise you to do up a sponsorship plan to indicate to interested companies on how much mileage they would get in accordance to how much product/cash they're willing to give out. also indicate the avenues of publicity in which you're holding your event. be prepared to get doors slammed in your face many times over.

its good that you have organized gigs on your own, so the sponsorship issue might be something that you would like to explore further.

yeah the last time asahi was kind enough to sponsor our event , but as you said it was not cash but their products. Once esplanade says yes then alot of sponsors will rush in for sure . But the problem is that Esplanade is a bit weary of such genres . But dont you reckon it would be really cool if they did allow it ? maybe there is a channel to go thru . but as for the esplande channel i'm really not sure who to approach. any suggestions? i am really keen in trying to do this if anyone shares the same sentiments. then maybe we can do something .

Its true that esplande does alot for Mosaic and all and i do respect them so much for doing things like that.. but we need something for our Hard Rock/rock and Roll / Metal brothers.

esplanade won't be suitable for such a gig like urs, suggest instead a more outfield place like fort canning or big space outside choa chu kang mrt. can also burn paper house kinda space.

shyamraj, no need to wonder on this thread. cos they might not be reading this. talk to em if you're keen to find out if they will or not.

why not get this message out to the government...
since u guys mentioned a petition...
get one done and submit it...
who knows the message might get thru...

F1 & the IR were impossible thoughts years ago...
but itz gonna happened in our shores soon...

maybe some of the major event organisers can come in the picture too...
if itz good enough,it could be as legendary as woodstock...
who knows...nothing is impossible...

woahh, bro ramone, you hate me right, suggest the open field at cck mrt, like that i will have no peace to sleep and keep seeing brewtal metal hard rod peeps walking around the area.

I suggest places like kranji, sungai kadut, sungai buloh or kathib bongsu. Since hard rock and metal supposed to keep it real and in your face, those area shud be more suitable, away from lime light and be really real! At the same time, help to feed the mosquitoes there!

Keep it real, keep it underground, no underground, move away from people to somewhere far!

alamak, bro, just a suggestion imho

If you really wanna do a petition, go get some server space and put up a site for the petition.

Even if doesnt come true, at least its presentable and lookie serious

A petition in a forum is the last place anyone can put seriousness to it.
