Anyone knows what happen to these great local bands?

all those bands stated....?

there was nothing musical or talent existing in any of their music, shows or songs.

all they generated ws noise, lots of it and waste any/everybody's time watching or hearing them live.

thank god they've grown up, moved on...and dissapeared...

good f88king riddance.....

yeah we grew up...Im 45..married with 4 kids & my eldest is in poly taking law. Im still doing it...in 3 bands & have a small indie 17-yr old label promoting old & new like the kind of "noisy waste of time" bands that U've mentioned above..

We did'nt move on..we simply progressed..

pfah....benloh, you were probably swimming around in a sea of spermatozoa and spared the dire end of the toiletbowl....

those bands then in tne 90's man....they screamed into microphones, played with untuned guitars (they actually believed and told everyone that that was how their guitars were tuned and it wasn't even drop tuned), started their songs off cue...got lost in the middle part...screamed some more....ended off cue ....and with a priceless attitude to match....they really thought they were good....

the only good band i know or rather good bands are the NO NAMES, straitjacket...ahhh forgot....

my band is still active..and i still get calls to play by other bands....its been 19 years....

Stompin Ground is still active after 21 years playing hardcore/punk (since 198 8 )...b4 that i played blues & rock since I was 15.

I have nothing against other musical genres..be it commercial or indie...Im just against the insincere stuff makin & manufacturing music. In fact I listen to Jazz,Acid,Lounge & Neosoul most of the time..

This is my take & mine alone..I dont speak for no one & I dont expect anyone to agree with me...but I feel that ure comments are unfair. Do not judge anything that U dont understand. These bands/musicians mentioned in this thread are as gd & as talented as any other bands. They made sacrifices just to play & write the kind of music they love. They are more sincere in fact...they dont play to please anybody but themselves...& some ppl start to understand & appreciate them for that along the way..

They's responsible for putting our scene on the map..

I apologise to the other members here for replying. I dont come here or post often....& I dont intend to since Im a very bz & simple guy :)

cheers :)

Steviegfc, Speak local. Robert plant don't know you & neither does Liam. But i do respect their music. Aquanaut is a very outspoken guy & is just simply airing his views i believe. He was already playing in the scene back then when it the punk rock/rock movement started locally.
And messing with my friend aquanaut is akin to messing with me as well. Just like you & benloh. But whatever it is, we are all entitled to our own opinions. Let's not make this personal and walk a path of no return.

Vector Prime, no offence taken. I undrstand what you mean. I respect you & your views as well cause hard work is hard work no matter what the genre is. And it is great that you are still making the music that you love as i am doing that too. Rarely do i comment on anything as well.

To be fair, lets wait & see what aquanaut has to say.

U know what, i don noe tt guy very well, n i wouldnt judge a persn jus on a post or 2 mayb if i noe him we might even be best fren or smth, but the thing hes comein and say jus rub it off a lil, mayb its best sometimes ppl take a step back regardless of age and eat a lil humble pie, and outspoken can b in diff forms. I jus happen to take his 'outspoken' as arrogrance.

Dont worry...I dont have time to actually pursue this further no matter what the outcome is. Just want to make things clear & put my cards on the table once & for all. Thats just me..I confront & I get it over asap :)

honestly speaking how is the scene here going to grow.. with all u doing this to each other?! i side no one.. but all i have to say is, being musicians, i think we are suppose to share and help each other instead of doing this. POINTLESS! with due respect whether u are a veteran or not. i see this as pointless. u can go on bashing, but bottom line is, ACTION SPEAKS LOUDER THAN WORDS!

so in the spirit of rock and roll, why not all of us jus ROCK! we can go on arguing but musicians who do than talk gains more...

rock n roll man...

Nomis's right, who cares ure old or new, we rock n roll together n rest of the world is forgotten, don think i aint show respect to the elders, if theres no one to pave the roads for us, why are we even in this forum. :)

With that I take my leave, rock n roll back \m/
*@Rockshock : Yea love to see u thr if i hav the time as well, heres to music cheers =)

I do agree sometimes & respect different views all of the time..but I dont agree to unfair criticisms...

I would appreciate a reply from Aquanaut himself tho...but I dont expect it..

*would love to see U play RockShock if I have the time :)

C'mon guys, let us face the fact that we, here, don't really have all the support we need unlike outsides..you know what I mean.
These guys did as a hobby or something initially but at one point thought that they could actually "try" to make a living out of it & somehow realised one fine day that it's all but a DREAM thing only..
No offence but seriously, from my personal point of view to all bands & musicians out there or wannabes, please, please, take it as a pure entertainment, hobby or just past times & stop thinking of making it BIG one fine day, locally..
Anyway, ALL THE BEST & just have fun while you still can!

To be fair there are crappy bands there are also good bands... but who are we to judge what they play? Different people have different styles, But dissing them aint the way to go about. Especially in Singapore where we have a small community.

I am not here to diss anyone, not aquanaut or Rockshock for that matter, I do however apologise if they feel offended.

I honestly dont know who Aquanaut is or what he have done, but I guess he wont feel good if ppl just say he only know how to create noise.....

Every one has worked hard one way or the other to contribute to Singapore music.

Actually just curious How many here rem travelling to the then World trade centre to listen to gigs or substation?

well...heheh...'uncle' suhaimi..guess i was wrong about your experience. ...so, i do apologise for the 'sprematozoa' comment. however, i do respect you ability to sustain interest in those bands til today....yay!!!

i was a fan of the local scene and still am, i used to call those bands the 'bigO bands' as they always billed on the same show...most of the time.
yes, there were good bands, good shows but these were about 10% of the 100% that were put out.....still, i attended as i do like alternative , rock and experimental so i had to see waht these 'new' bands then had to offer.

my first experience was quite shocking actually. the first band on stage tuned loudly, gave up halfway when the drummer cued them in....the guitarist shouted expletives that even we at the back could hear...the singer, on missing his cue ...screamed into the mic...andthe feedback ...well lets just say the sound guy threw off his head phones and stomped to the stage and pull out the guitarists jack....
this was at marina bay.....on a stage just behind chameleon disco (does not exist anymore)...if anyone remembers....this gig....in 1991...

so, how i described those bands in my previous post is how i still really feel about them...forgetable but somehow in a twisted way....memorable....

i was fun watching the goofups.... and a good learning ground for all aspiring musicians....a basic what to / not to do texbook....unfortunately, til today in 2009 the new / next generation still remain true to the 'what not to do' book....

there was a thread about tuners somewhere here...the idiot who claimed not to be able to tune by ear ...could actually differentiate tuning off by + 3 cents to - 3 cents.??

the youth of today have expanded knowledge of everythig to play music..theoretically magnificient...BUT in a live playing situation....they find themselves begging on their knees..for the gig to come out great....

rockshow...my bro....always...YOU are the bassists' bassist man!!!!

stevefc...you might need a dictionary to actually decipher what i wrote...aternatively you can get one of those chinese to english pocket translators sold by besta ...

aging youth F88k you, you biased fat so...

hahah thnx mate! but i aint working so mayb u can chip in some dearly plz hahahhaha..

on a mre serious note tho, thats mr legendary for you guys, enugh said

agin youth, dont be surprised, hes a legend, his mouths gold, mus respect this legend mar horr, he doesnt do crappy scremo and does gr8 versions of lemon tress live hahahaha

whatever it is 'Uncle' Aquanaut...the comments u made earlier clearly was aimed generally to the bands stated in this thread...not just one band or ure first experience. That point having said..Im done here.

I appreciate ure reply...& U dont need to apologise..coz my band is'nt the only one mentioned in this thread. I had my say earlier & lets just leave it that way.

Maybe the reason Im still here & doing it is coz maybe I never cared about what ppl think of us...& we're just happy & feel blessed that there are ppl who appreciate our music & gave us neverending support all these years

For the rest...WE never cared :)

cheers :)
