Anyone knows what happen to these great local bands?

u mean.. u still want my 1984 heavy metal BOSS distortion ah? :)

Adam - your posting here means I get to regain contact with you.

How nice for us -and irritating for Aquaman- that we hideous time-wasting non-musical pals are all bumping into each other here again.

Anyway, I am glad I get to tell you now that last time Etc played at the Substation , we did local covers. And Open Up the Windows was on the shortlist. And a NoNames one too. Anyway, if we have a recording and I am not too malu we'll send it over. I've since forgot how to play it.

In the end I didn't think we could improve on it. We played Tokyo Square, a Zircon Lounge one, Oddfellows... and one other - but I can't remember now which. Not Shades though.

By JOve! You must be the demented ang moh guitarist from the depths of Geylang Lorong 17!

By the vipers of Valtron... how r ya mate? :)
we're in the midst of recording lah.. ur lungs still ok? wanna grind vocally with us? ;)

Musicians who don't respect other musician's works shouldn't get any respect in return. So with that, i would give both middle fingers up to them.

Noise or 'noisy' music can be woeful to you but beautifully abstract to others. Usually, musicians who play by the book and the rules of engagement in making music are very narrow minded, zero...zilch... in creativity and abstract thoughts of your music.

Aquanaut and others of like, you're just another of those musicians just like above sentence.

thought this thread was going downhill, but guess i like the way its going now. much respect to the alumnus for turning it around. especially tajmall's snarky comebacks. extra SOFT.com.sg mojo for you.

esam, great to see you posting here. i totally relate to what you were talking about - being a secondary school kid watching these awe-inspiring bands playing. much like you, i too was in awe of the bands that i managed to catch when i was discovering independent music made in singapore - bands like foursides / stompin ground, OP (miss joining them for their warm up sessions), latter-day Padres, Oddfellows, Livonia etc. They inspired me to be my own musician, to stand up for what i believe in and never say die, to have integrity and believe in something bigger than myself. To make music that's true to myself, to express the music in my heart as honestly as i can. Much like Esam, i've also had my fair share of plum gigs - played on the mainstage for the first baybeats, been on radio, live national TV, had my music on rotation on the radio, toured thailand, australia etc, opened for the manic effing street preachers. i had opportunities that some of these guys never had. but i don't forget where i came from, and i give my props to you guys - especially you chaps from Suhaimie Stompin Ground, Adam Global Chaos, Ben ETC/Electric Penguins, FGL, Jo Cinco... honourable mention for Dane'co & phatman willy ;)

And by the way esam, you are one of those deadly talented guys i used to sit by the stage and admire, and aspired to be like. Much respect - you've come full circle, from admirer to admired. all the best in KL, hope to share the stage with you up there sometime.

wait a minute....STONED REVIVAL...were you on the list?
man...i did not see it earlier ....my god ....what a mistake!!! sorry guys...to esam especially, i am and always have been a fan of stoned revival...great to have seen you guys back again on tv after all these years and kamahl still looks as he did back then....heck i even went down to the esplanade to see your performance ...the 5 song set ..the neo soul phase which i guess did not work out with an all new lineup...ya..sorry la..

stomping ground...i never liked you guys la...just tak kena with me...sorry but good work til today.

global chaos......(!!!?!!!) ...my thoughts as it were when i first saw you all play live...

FGL? no its not the camels, and of being in yemen, ....no....there are ....forget it....see you soon at the TYE pub when i get back...

on a final note , i am glad i finally managed to draw out all these guys from the alt/rock movement of the nineties....to let us know what they have been doing....
great to hear from you guys...

now ...i really need to provoke that oddfellows guy, joe ng (corporate toil).....NO NAMES what happened to them?

you guys reminds me of those indie music days back in the 90s. I remember buying and also putting my band's (photocopied cover) cassette tape for sale at Funan center Roxy.
The best music and creative works are all before the late 90s. The modern computer has helped but also killed creative composition. Modern musicians and artists can't visualize as before anymore.

The feelings mutual then...we never liked Ure kind too..but we never shoot anybody down for no apparent reason. In fact we used to tell the kids to stay & support all the other bands after our set...

on a final note , i am glad i finally managed to draw out all these guys from the alt/rock movement of the nineties

U wish..

-------------------------------------------------------------------

again I apologize to the other members here if I have offended anyone in any way :)

As for the scene itself...from my honest perception..it's becoming more vibrant than b4...with the REAL older musicians sharing their experience, more young talented bands/musicians that we definitely have, good venues, organisers doing more shows & most of all..Im really happy things like the slamdancing ban had been lifted (we were guilty of that while opening for THE ROLLINS CONCERT back in the early 90s..forgive us :) ).

My advice to the new musicians/bands..don't ever let anyone tell U that u're not good enuf. Channel that unnecessary criticism thru a positive way & make it a challenge to prove ureself worthy..

It's a fast growing small scene...& I am & always proud to be part of it..

cheers :)

I did this a long time ago....Halfway thru I realized I just have to be worthy to myself, my band and my art and **** the disbelievers.

Bro which band were you in?

I'd like to say the same but the truth is, I've never heard your music. I can respect the fact that you don't get us or never liked us. I am a very honest person myself. If I don't like a band, even if some of them were my friends, I'd tell them straight to their face that they don't sound good. But the difference with me and you is, I don't say "good f**king riddance....." when they quit. I tell them to try harder even before they do.

When we first started playing our instrument, it is no secret that we all sucked (including you). Did you really forget how badly you sucked back then. It's only been what? 19 years right?

I made my choice to play Hardcore. I could've chosen to play something more generic or mainstream like the ones you probably play. But for what? My music has made more difference to people than yours will ever make in 20 years.

great to hear from you guys...

We're not from the nineties. We're from the eighties. YOU'RE from the nineties.

My respect goes out to all aspiring musicians here, young and old. If people say you're not good enough, just try harder and never quit. We all suck the first time. So keep practicing.

We need to remember that when Elvis or The Beatles first played on the radio, old and/or narrow-minded people thought it was noise. This is really a simple case of history repeating itself.

Glad that there are people like you in the scene.

We have a common enemy.
