bla bla blabla lbal blalbalblalb lbla lb

are u all still reading??

now dis is wat i call a senseless post and a waste of bandwith.
sorry bout dat james.

you know, you know. just that you're current state of mind think that is not wrong. we are adults and i am not in the position to change the way you think. maybe later on in life, you will chance upon this website again and reflect on the post you'd made.

well.......i mean, to an extent, i agree with lars. it is kinda unproductive, because it's not Productive. it's just a person saying congrats to a random person with a new drumkit, who may not be on soft. what's the point, really? whoopdeedoo.

that said, this IS the kopitiam part of the forum, and even though i think it's a waste of space for people to put unproductive threads up, it's supposed to be "anything under the sun" so i guess it's not our place to tell people what to post and what not to.

However, i do think we have a right to say it's a pretty lame post if we think it's a lame post. i mean, "Anything Under The Sun" also implies that we're free to give our opinions, right? as long as they're not libelous or factually inaccurate, i think it means we probably are allowed to express our opinions (as opinion and not as fact, of course) even if they don't agree with the majority.

cheers.

how to turn an unproductive post into a productive post

well, if the new drumkit owner mentioned in the first post become a SOFT member! that is 1 up for SOFT.

erm well i dont think i know, i know. bcos all i said was that it was a senseless post and the thread shud be closed. unless of cos the guy who bought the set is a softie. then maybe those 2 guys can get together and spend some intimate time together. i mind as well start congratulating everyone i see who buys a drumset or a guitar. thats ok then? i mean cmon u recently said that there was a bandwidth limit. i spose this thread really helps matter eh? i wanna know what u think i did wrong. why did u avoid the question? is that an adult thing? will i lose the ability to be direct? please enlighten me, oh all-knowing mr/mrs soft.

ps: i still dont know if ure a guy or a girl. ur display pic is really weird. ddnt mean to offend u though.

i suppose we could start with consequential thread topics. congradulating a random stranger who may not be part of the forum (yet) is really pretty inconsequential. a) he/she probably won't read it if he/she's not a forum member, b) it helps no one, and c) none of the forummers are receiving any congradulations, so it really doesn't pertain to any relevant subject matter in this forum, nore does it have anything really to do with the forummers in this forum save for the one dedicating his congrats to a random person.

nevertheless, this being the Kopitiam section where anything under the sun is ok, irrelevant and inconsequential subject matter is allowed, so i have no objections to the thread. it helps that there are specific subforums such as the guitar gears or guitar howto sections so that we can stick to predetermined and productive subject matter, and for that i am grateful.

i understand that the thread was started out of goodwill, and the world needs as much goodwill as it can get. notwithstanding, i still think the thread is irrelevant, and the subject matter is inconsequential and unproductive. this isn't a bad thing per se, it's just an inherent characteristic of a thread of this nature.

surprised dat u see it dis way. juz because its contents does not apply to u, does not mean its unproductive. how diff is dis from other threads? E.g those dat asks whoever is in a certain skool and so forth. .

saying no offence to the other person at the end of a sentance does'tn make it any less hurtfull.

james, for the sake of bandwith and or more pointless arguments over the internet. feel free to close dis thread. it has not served its purpose. if the intended recipient of the thread DID get to read it. he mite be too afraid to reply by now

that is true. however, it's likely that it's contents do not apply to anyone on this forum, not just me. i agree that the school threads are similar in their irrelevance, and frankly, i think they're a waste of space too. i just try my darnedest to not step on peoples' toes by telling them to take their school threads somewhere else. it's annoying to have a gear thread or music thread get hijacked by a bunch of people who start talking about their old school mates when they can use PMs or contact each other via instant messengers and do their own thing without hijacking the thread. people get all excited that their favourite music thread has hit 3 pages and then they check it out and it's 1/2 a page of music stuff and 2 1/2 pages of highschool reunions. ugh.

i've been around forums long enough to know that flame wars will go on and people will take things personally no matter what you say. i won't tell people what to post and what not to, but honestly, if i think a thread is irrelevant and just a wee bit lame, i don't mind saying it. if the thread benefits people and is related to music in a consequential manner, or if it engages people in a meaningful way, i'm totally fine with it, and my personal likes and dislikes are irrelevant to the importance of the thread. if a thread is inconsequential, again, it has a right to be posted in the Kopitiam section. it's just that it's inconequential and doesn't benefit anyone, really. it's not that i dislike it or anything, i'm pretty neutral. it's just that it's non-beneficial, and if you look at it in a neutral academic way, or from a productivity point, it's useless. that's all.

personally, i only get annoyed when people hijack a good thread and turn it into something irrelevant.

cheers,
s.ninja
