Any pedals that can REPLICATE a Mesa Dual Rect type dist?

There's a higher gain channel (modern) on the Rectifier which is much heavier like Bullet for my valentine... but I prefer the vintage channel as it's more versatile for a wide array of music.

That is EXACTLY what I want!! BFMV!! the poison!!

:)

The settings for that clip for the gain was at 12 o'clock and the volume at 9 o'clock.... if it was on modern channel volume at 8 o'clock would be much louder and punchier than the vintage... That was vintage distortion not the modern distortion which is much heavier...

Leecs I would love to hear a demo of your Triamp!

Will try to make a short demo of the modern channel when i have the time for all you metallic pple

Hmm.

Wow. Just read through the entire thread. Very interesting topic actually, TS...

Well, I'm honestly not much of a modern-tone aficionado BUT I do have a couple of things to point out:

1. ever realised the miking techniques that recording artistes employ, especially for modern hard rock/metal music? I noticed that alot of times they tend to use close-miking.. which gives you that gritty, in-your-face sound.

2. with regards to the above, just to follow up... notice how so many modern bands mike up their amps when onstage? Take a close look at where the mics are placed... you guessed it: close miking at the centre/edge of the cone.

3. I realised in alot of suggestions... people say tone set at this, gain set at that.. whatever. How about getting a dedicated 10-band EQ (MXR 10-band EQ perhaps?) and start working with your existing pedals. Also, try angling up your amp / speakers to face your chest/head region... not pointing at your knees.

4. yes, we can all agree to disagree whether pedals can or cannot get the tone you hear from a CD / youtube video / in your head. Ultimately I feel that we ought to just bear in mind the set-ups these pros use themselves and the amount of gear they use. From the guitar players' fingers, to the string all the way to the speaker cone...some things just cannot be replicated whether by pedal, microchip or true blue tube amp.

5. Lastly, as much as I respect your desire to replicate someone else's tone, does that mean that the tone you created yourself is any less worthy? I think not... it's your own individual tone after all!

Very true and i totally agree... but much of it still depends on what equipment (guitar, amp or effects) are used. Pre-amps are also an important part of their rig.

Bearing in mind that the sounds you hear are engineered, mixed and changed by the producers. What comes out directly out of their amp might not be what is heard on the album or recording. Times have changed unlike the olden days where most of the recording were raw and lightly mixed or engineered. I've tried recording my Mesa Rect on a Shure 57 and it doesn't sound like what you get and tat's without mixing.

But we are all suckers for that tone we hear and are willing to die for. That's why the musical instrument and gadget industry make tons of money of pple like us. And not forgetting why we love Soft.

heh, it wud really suck, to spend so much time going thru forums and spending money, to realise that whatever we hear from our fave musicians cant be replicated, even when we have the same thing. So is it the gear or us, being the problem?

we probably can get close but nv precisely so. thats why i dun wanna get like a certain artist's tone. its not practical to chase after that. would rather have my own sound.

coz the problem is with youtube and internet, before that, whats the probability of knowing how many of us having similarities?

blame youtube instead, shreddy!

I thought it was just due to the poor compression that youtube does!!!!

Can try this pedal. It will get you somewhere near mesa sounding.
The amp simulator in the pedal makes the sound like a tube amp.
