Analog Chorus Recomendation

Hi there, I am considering getting a chorus pedal that can go from subtle to lush chorus, not necessarily be able to get a Leslie sound. Not much practical use for that.

More importantly I am looking for something chimey, hopefully vintage voiced, affordable (<$200 2nd hand) and quiet.

Been eyeing the Ibanez CS-9, a softie had it on sale but pulled out and adviced me to not to get it.

I have heard good stuff about Boss chorus pedals, ever tried an Arion SCH-1 and a VS H20. The Arion was good, but not quite what I am looking for. VS H20? Prefer a single stompbox to save space.

I am looking for something like this

YouTube - Ibanez Chorus CS9 test

Need some input here from the more experienced gear-heads, please do not recommend me a TC Electronics Chorus hehe.

how about the boss ce-2? I'm sure it fits your budget. do note the version differences. very lush sounding in my opinion.

BYOC Chorus.

I love it because I can get a subtle and 'barely-there' effect. It can also do a wishy-washy lush chorus ala the small clone. And if you max both the rate and the depth, you get this vibrato-ish, ring mod sound thats awesome for noisemaking.

I'm currently using an 80s Ibanez CS-9 (2 knobs) and I absolutely love it for its subtle but gorgeous chimey sound. Not sure why you were advised against it but I'd say, trust your own ears. Prior to using this, I had the EHX Polychorus which has a really nice chorus/flanger sounds as well but with more options/knobs/settings.

EH small clone

still available as new in shop, at reasonable price, classic chorusing sound, wide range.

No over hyped mojo across internet forum, made in where bulls, nor insane prices for what it can do

imho

If the aim is Lushness... then my take would be analogman chorus.

ce2 is warm sounding and very usable is all settings

ibanez's CS9 is a mild type chorus, it's supportive of your tone, not overpowering.

for something very commanding, check out Danelectro's Cool Cat.

ditto on the small clone. not just cos i sell it. i use it too. if i ever ever play.

no mojo, no hype... just plain one switch and knob chorus that sounds pretty damn good.

and the analogman one... isn't a clone of the EH Small Clone before it got reissued? hmmmmmmmmmm.

Thanks for the heads up guys. Have been overlooking the Small Clone due to it having a single knob. Pretty interesting, it goes well together with a OD or distortion unlike most choruses colouring too much of the sound IMO.

Edder - Will get it from you if I finally decide to buy one ;)

Shredcow - Hehehe, your first clip, Skid Row! My main purpose for hunting the right chorus pedal is kinda to nail the clean tone of the intro of "Wasted Time", hence leaning to something more 'shimmery'.

Thank you everyone for your input, will go try out all these pedals myself soon. Cheers!

I find the EHX Small Clone to sound more... "appropriate" for clean tones. More lush and swirl. The boss pedals... different chorus-ing happening I think. Didn't enjoy the Clone with dirt - too much swirling happening, where else the CE-2 is very warm and not overbearing.

Its like MXR Phase 90s to the EXH's Small Stone. Where the 90 excels with dirt but the stone with cleans.

I see. Pardon my quick judgment, I had felt that when watching through a few Youtube demos. Hehe. Well well, gonna really seek and try out a CS9, Small Clone, Rocktron Tsunami, and of cause both the CE-2 and CE-3.

Really appreciate it guys, its been a while since proper and constructive gear discussion with the more experienced players has been around here in SOFT amidst all the nonsense nowadays. :D
