A NEW transparent Booster? (With pic)

man im just wondering, if a transparent booster is meant to make the sound louder but not colour the tone at all, why not consider a volume pedal. seems to do just that cos if theres a spike in tone its most likely that the original tone has already been altered.

just imho, i might be wrong thou.

a volume pedal usually will only keep the overall volume the same as plugging a guitar straight to amp and turning down the volume knob as and when. It wont boost the signal

as for boosting the signal, a transparent booster shud be pushing the limit further in term of decibel(db) but not frequency(htz)

for having an eq pedal, while it does increase the signal, but it add in frequencies to the original signal.

some people use a volume pedal in the effect loop of amp, turn up the volume on amp and using the volume pedal to control the overall volume level. Kind of like master volume

or best, use booster betwween guitar and amp, push the amp hard and loud, use the booster as overall volume control instead

9.8/10 for your reply. excellent.

-0.1 cos unit of measurement for frequency is Hz
-0.1 cos you didn't mention anything about cooking rice.

yeap, thats 1 issue with volume pedals, they are passive units. While that might be okay for a solid state (run distortion from pedals) it doesn't work if you wanna push a tube amp. Also, the volume pedal introduces a pot into the circuit, so if you're anal about that tiny treble cut... esp with bright tones, then oh well.

*Review Update*
I just used the DB-2 as a volume controller, basically, to test how transparent is it when boosting after dirt pedals, but limiting it with the master volume.

It was like so,
Amp at x volume
DB-2 boosting AFTER distortion boxes (they are on), but master volume lowered till its almost at x volume.

Couldn't hear any thickening/fattening effect, the "bass boost" I mentioned was very hard to hear... in fact, the whole a/b sounded very similiar. Again, no extra compression too... very nice.

support local builders. any of our local guys gt nice comps?

i have the regular vapourware Ross clone aka angmokeeleyio compressor.

hur hur hur....

Tell me more about this, are there any upgrades/differences you would use in the ross circuitry?

How about an Orange Squeezer clone?

The ross circuitry uses cheap ass components eg ceramic caps, carbon film resistors etc. My standard components are slightly above average using metal film resistors and PE/PP/PS plastic caps. I use PP 1uF caps and not 1uF electrolytic caps (not so good for tone) that are regularly used in standard production pedals. Other than the better components, nope not much mod done to it and no MOJO added. hur hur...

Orange Squeezer? Yeah done a bunch of clones long time back. They're cool but they're kinda like set and forget compressors as there's a sweet spot. Once you've found it, thats it. Not as versatile as the Ross aka "MXR Dynacomp with a buffered input".

oh remember... ordering from me will guarantee many months of hair pulling, ignored sms/calls/emails and indefinite lead time. I prefer to call my products vapourware. Just ask all my good friends over at Misse. They is knows bestest. 8)

I wanna analogman bi-comp. :P

I'll think about it, if i want to order from you. Hair pulling is fine as long as you don't run away with the dough or try to chop heads. Heh.

oh I maintain, as dodgy as I claim to be, I'll never do such a despicable act of running away with dough.

Though there are despicable ones that ordered and run away. Custom made pedals and rackmounts somemore. Forever in the shitlist man these people.

hahaha... then you'll be in for the ride of your life. I don't provide warrantee for hair loss hor!

Onz i want 2 of those. can i pay in KLs?

on a serious note, my friend who has a shop in pearl center who sells electronic parts did a ross distortion clone a while back, i wasnt too impressed with it though. sounded pretty generic.

ah seng you know kok or not? tink you all called him mr 335 a while back.

ehh how much would it cost for the ross compressor??

kok? I've met him once at the misse stall. oh yes that 335 is very lau nuahable...

Ross distortion if I remember correctly is almost similar to a mxr distortion+ which is also almost similar to a DOD overdrive+ or something like that. You're absolutely right. Not very nice.

Cost for the ross... hmmm... lets see... how does $200 sounds?

When DR M got the vision for malaysia 2020, i believe in him more than singapore GOAL 2010!

Oh yeah, the rackmount, the one with the ricecooker brand on it. Bet it cant cook rice

anyway, back to compressor. Just heard from da boss, misse. The RMC FK-1 compressor will be in together with the wah stock. So anyone looking for comp, can check that out

as for review, save it, go search the story of how the FK-1 comp came about from fabrik konstruction-1 to (F)phuq keeley 1 be more interesting instead.. (and no, no joking on this one, the story quite well know round harmony central efx forum round 2 years back)
