I'm currently digging John Paul Jones. His thundering bass lines beneath Jimmy Page's screaming guitar-ing in Led Zep is simply too much to behold! Check out 'Lemon Song' by the aforementioned group; bass " wanking " !

i tink Steve DiGiorGio (ex Death, ex Sadus) rocks.. playin metal with a fretless bass, that's something.

I strongly second this, its not just the novelty of hi playing metal with fretless, it works as well.

I did not realise how good he was until I bought a good pair of earphone that let me hear the bass clearly.
While everyone raved about Clapton in Cream, Bruce was improvising all over the place underneath Clapton's guitar solo.

Jack bruce was ripping it apart beneath Clapton's screaming guitar solos. The fact that he did all those sick bass improvisations while he was singing elevates his playing to an even higher level.

He looked real cool swinging that EB-3 around too. 8) ( or was it an EB-0? )
