Your favourite bassist?

I'm currently digging John Paul Jones. His thundering bass lines beneath Jimmy Page's screaming guitar-ing in Led Zep is simply too much to behold! Check out 'Lemon Song' by the aforementioned group; bass " wanking " ! :D

my all time favorite bassist would be the one and only John Entwistle of the Who !!!!!!!!! Love all his basslines especially in my generation!

Kinda cool how Pino was mentioned around your post, when he took over the late Entwhistle's bass seat with The Who. :)

Don't laugh at me
My favourite bassline from Pino is Paul Young's Everytime You Go Away. :smt039

I can come out of the closet now!

i tink Steve DiGiorGio (ex Death, ex Sadus) rocks.. playin metal with a fretless bass, that's something.

I strongly second this, its not just the novelty of hi playing metal with fretless, it works as well.

Plus:

Twiggy for his effective rhythm work and of course the Great James Jameson

Pino paladino....I drool each time i hear Paul Young's "Whenever i lay my hat thats my home" fretless bass line. He's is the one who inspired me to pick up the bass and leave the guitars hehehe

who's the bassist from Simply Red? he's a mean mofo as well!

i'd like to add to the list

Juan Nelson
Stuart Zender

Jack Bruce

I did not realise how good he was until I bought a good pair of earphone that let me hear the bass clearly.
While everyone raved about Clapton in Cream, Bruce was improvising all over the place underneath Clapton's guitar solo.

Love love love the way he bends those strings too...

Yeah! +1111

Jack bruce was ripping it apart beneath Clapton's screaming guitar solos. The fact that he did all those sick bass improvisations while he was singing elevates his playing to an even higher level.

He looked real cool swinging that EB-3 around too. 8) ( or was it an EB-0? )

Did ever anyone mentioned Mark King......or Sting...he's a great bassist and he plays with his thumb.....not slapping mind you.....
