In audio engineering there is no implication on mistakes as a builder has to balance his ear, feel and electronic theory to achieve his intention.

If it's a mistake it won’t work (function as intended) ...period.

The fuzz face may be considered a mistake then...since it’s a distorting pre-amp which should not, but done so on purpose.

Who knows? It was cool enough for some great guitarists to rely on it for their tone... maybe it works, even though its really that "simple"?
