The reality of the industry is that cover bands get most of the gigs and most of the A list locally always have covers in their reportoire too. In fact, if you realise, cover bands (professional ones) get paid nearly double original bands

At some stage, a band wouldnt have enough material to have a fully original set.

Not to mention, its always admirable to have a strong influence rather than watered down, generic or weird sounding music

de-ataq was ok wat yesterday~!though the original sounds a lil bit like blink 182 and another band tune dat i wouldnt mention here..cos while u guys were playing..i was singing along to the song wif ur music..hehhee..but yeah...originals..I guess anyone can play anything and claim it to be their original song but when the bands play covers and do those cover songs justice..dats what i call talent~!And yeah~!I am super happy dat project ultra sound and shine got thru~!Cos they really got great potential and groove~! Project Ultra sound all the way,man!!
And Shine..I hope you guys will have even greater songs to show to these 'universal music= metal,hardcore,rock' people..hehehe...

And thus comes the downfall of creativity in music in Singapore.
I hate to sound like a prick, c_cilik, but your opinions reveal a strong lack in the knowledge of music and it's history. De-Ataq did great, and their originals do not sound anywhere close to Blink182 or any other watered-down media that you have been aurally ingesting like a baby being fed by an overbearing mother. Did you even know the covers played by any of the bands? You claim that anyone can play anything and claim it to be originals but when bands play covers they do the song justice. Where do you think the cover songs originated from? ORIGINAL MATERIAL. Well that's a no-brainer. Are you really that insensible? It is people like you that stifle creativity and suffocate the local music scene as a whole because of your abberant ignorance. It is fortunate for you that the Internet has provided you a voice, because in the real world, making comments like those will get you ridiculed and have any tangible reputation tarnished, if any. Wake up and smell the air, c_cilik, because you seem to be in a world of your own.

hmmm, i dont remember De-Ataq sounding like Blink 182 either. i think they sounded gr8! its not easy doing covers, and doing them justice is a lot tougher, but neither is it easy writing ur own songs. heck, its not easy playing in a band either.

Maybe cilik meant to be constructive, but ended up using the wrong words or something.....but dude, De-Ataq definitely doesnt sound like Blink 182 man. guys, just dont start bashing each other, remain calm man.

on the topic of "Universal Music," music is the only Universal Language, it doesnt matter what genre. i hate the word genre.

ranz, actually any band with any genre can join. in fact i would love to see a jazz band play man.

thx ppl! for accepting de-ataq's music! personally being the guitarist...i have to admit blink182 was thing which made me pick up guitar...however de-ataq isn't a punk band so i can't really be a punk rocker. Speaking of originality i have to say tt i haven't really found an original voice on my instrument since i'm still rather new to it. but wadever...we all had fun playing this compy! it's great knowing all the other bands..u guys were really good!

I think they're not so much unhappy that a reggae band went through as much as they're unhappy that a band that played almost a set of covers went through..

If u did read properly...DUDE...you would see that we were focussing on the word ORIGINALITY. F*CK you for saying stuff like jazz, reggae, chinese pop, you mother's pop, whatever the hell the genre is cant join bla bla bla. Who in the blue hell said anything about genre?????? grow up kid. no matter how old you are. If there was a solid jazz band who does NOT play ONLY COVERS(EXACT REPLICATION) and do one impressive ORIGINAL, hell, they deserve to win man. Whatever genre, if they are tight and have their own IDENTITY, they deserve to get through. So pls rethink what you just implied on us "ROCKERS".
