Why are most drummers male?

Is Drumming a "Manly" profession/hobby/interest?

Why is it so that there are more males playing drums than that of females?
Is it because , drums are being seen as an instrument which requires "strength"?

This question kept me up all night :???:

there are just more male musicians then female in general.

there are quite a few prominent female drummers out there. Cindy Blackman, Mika's drummer, several others.

yeap it's true, male musicians are more than female musicians generally.. Nevertheless, there's a few female drummers here in the local scene.. I've seen Jinx (local punk rock band) and Stronza (local crust punk band) drummers. Quite tight, and Stronza's drummer is quite pretty too.. HAHAHA!

i don't know, i think it's a genre gap to a certain extent? only a small percentage of females i know can tolerate genres like rock, jazz, blues, etc. most are into mainstream pop kinda stuff which don't really inspire you to pick up drumming. most males prefer that rock hard edgy music so i guess they'll be more interested to pick up drumming. but saying that, i do know a few girls who'll rock your socks out if you piss them off

Why are girls mostly into mainstream pop kinda stuff and why not vice versa for men?

I think it's lack of exposure.( But i think im still wrong )
