But plz do try it out for yourself, one mans meat might be another's poison. Who knows you might like it.
True... test the wah's you're intereted in, then decide..
I've gone through these:
-
Vox (early 90's version)
: best sounding of the lot i've used, clean or dirty. most "vocal". but the pot gets dirty/noisy really quick. used this in the early 90's (still UK made?), belongs to my matrock brother. remembered Kirk was using this for the Black album, and saw Jimi with one in Woodstock VCR. i still have the brown carrying fake-leather bag for this.
-
Jim Dunlop Crybaby 535 (this is without the Q)
: most versatile i've used. regret selling this... there's 5 "preset" tones. the best (for me) is preset no.2 (2nd brightest), because its warm and not piercing. the most "garang/interesting" is the last one (bassiest), can really hear the "whooohhh", sounds like a bombed-auto filter. bought this after seeing an ad with Soundgarden and the 535 in the mid 90's.
-
Jim Dunlop Crybaby Original (GCB-95)
: the most neutral for me. love it for its "quackiness". was using this when i was in my funk/reggae/dub phase. works well with "everything" for me. sold it off in 2003.
Currently using another
GCB-95 (2nd hand). Works well for most of my stuff. Was thinking of sending it for "true-bypass" mod, but i'm happy with it so far. Not bothered with the "buffered sound"...
Other mention: the
Jim Dunlop Classic GCB-95F (the one with the fasel)
I've tried this a few times and feel its close to the Vox's (the 90's i used to use) sound. Very "vocal". Nearly bought it a number of times...
So, i shall say again: try the ones you're interested in, and decide after...
