which delay?

hello... i need some help on which delay to get, cause i realised almost every one is pretty much alike?

i'm currently using a friend's BOSS DD-5, which is discontinued already.. and its my first and only delay, hence i know nuts about how others modify your tone, sound digital, etc...

ibanez DE7, DD3, DD6 and DD20s seem to be pretty popular.. wonder if i can get some advice... thanks!

Since I got it from Pedal-itis, I haven't looked back. Before that I was using Artec Analog Delay. It was good, especially for the price but after the AD9, nothing else will do.

the ad9 kicks ass man, i use a vintage one from the 80s and it sounds so good it's basically on all the time. the only shortcoming of the ad9 for me is that it's not incredibly versatile--no tap tempo, multiple delay settings, modulation, etc--so i use a line6 echo park in tandem for more obscure post-punk/-rock type playing. for someone who's new to delay, though, something in the vein of an ad9 or dd-5 can definitely supply all your needs. the dd-5 is boss's best small box delay imo, so maybe you don't even need to think about getting a new one before you get used to playing with delay.
 
i agree with jon__, your dd5 will definitely be able to satisfy all your delay needs as long as you dont start being a delay nut, stacking multiple delays for that uber cascaded effect.

i think theres even more people who love the ad9. losaris and pedal-itik are fans too :lol:
 
Threadstarter, what do you want your delay to do.

List your requirements.

Then we can advise you.





To "counter" the Ibanez AD-9 arguement, some people don't like it because it really is very... bland/muddy/dark/murky = analog analog delay. Some people want a replication of their notes so a digital delay does it better. Etc etc.
 
hey shred, actually, i was just enquiring on delays only, i guess jon and markedymark have answered my question... i myself aint a good delay user, just noobing around with my friend's... well so it happens to be a good delay!!

i ought to give analog delays a shot too, thanks guys!!

In fact, i'm really glad you are going out to try stuff.

Many a time, the best and fastest way to learn is to try it, experience it. Its a very sad thing to see people ask about a piece of gear and keep asking for opinions when... just going to try or buying it, will solve the whole big hoo ha. Applies for gear only ah.

:D you'll truely understand whether the thing works for you or not.

what wud be the speciality of the tc electronic delay over other delay of similar price range or the t rex delay, considering both are so closely match up to point of layout and features?
 
Simple ...any sigle boss DD series can do the job.
If you want a one trick pony then get those glorified analog delay'ds which come with glorified prices !!

The one most popular delay now is the DL4 ...i see it on lots of pedal boards!
I have the Echo Park >> its pretty versatile and amazingly usable for someone who wants more in a small package. Its got three types of delay *tape-digi-analog* which can be flavoured with ~ 11 settings ....the tap tempo needs getting used to ....there is a slight volume boost which i like and i dont see why people complain !! It also likes isolated power supply or else that blinking Led starts buzzing.

I have also a DD3 with a high cut mod switchable which is just after my dirt for some pre-delay effect before my other modulation section.
So, i can have *muffled* decay repeats and the normal clear repeats.
The muffled decay is nice for cleans and low gain feeding through but normal clear repeats is necessary for heavy dirt as it gives clarity....i need both all the time :D
I have tried and built *analog delay* types and was hardly satisfied.
The best analog i have tried is the EH DMM (deluxe memory man)...its a delay and more !

plus must remember to clip away the free treble bleed capacitor at the output jack! :lol: :lol:
