Whats the diff between COVERED and NON-COVERED pickups?

Its actually answered a lot of times online via google.

Why don't you do a little search... and come back with an answer?

i dont have an answer, but that is one horrible reply. He came here to find out about something and to tell him to google it is rude.

But i dont know the difference, I'd guess that if you dont like the color of your pickup you can give it a cover that matches the color you want

that is not really rude, he is just telling the ts to search because like he said this topic has been answered before

also sometimes the internet can make a comment sound bad

Rude? Interesting.

You should go search it up too. Educate yourself.

It works both ways actually.. People should learn to be more independent and search for the answers themselves.. Although, posting here is a way of searching for answers, it is in a manner of speaking, asking to be spoonfed..

Shreddy was not rude in saying that, in fact, in another angle, it can be said that the TS was rude not to do his own research before hand.. It is always wise to arm oneself with knowledge..

But regarding the question, I find open humbuckers to sound "brighter" and more trebly as a whole.. Great for guitars like the Gibbie SG Special, making it sound like a guitar perfect for Classic Rock..

Thanks guys hah.

I don't think Shredcow was being rude anw haha.

Thanks guys! Oh yeah crap its open humbuckers not non-covered.

Kinda sounded like a dumbass there haha.

Thanks anw guys!

yeah here we go again "educate yourself" anybody who says that makes them sound like they had more education than you therefore makes me inferior.

he might have meant it nicely but yes the internet can turn things around. One of the things why i love forums is that you can ask people something and they give you a straight answer. these answers are often from people with more knowledge than you in a subject so therefore they ask YOU, the people with more knowledge. "go google it" isnt being helpful

So... what do you propose? That those who are in the know, the "better" ones (according to your 1st para, funny how you think that way though...), should just answer every query presented to them?

hmmmm...

So tell us young padawan ....what helps ?

One of the things why i love forums is that you can ask people something and they give you a straight answer.

I have been here on the internet long enough to say that it's bollocks....now thats pretty staright just that one hangs lower than the other ....:???:

Stick to the thread. if you want discuss the issue of
comments like "do your own research first" or like
"be helpful instead of asking ppl to help themselves"
or like "if not helpful can just keep quiet" or issues
that go along the lines of "holier than thou"

plz open a new thread and discuss there.
if fact, I believe that such threads had
already been open. plz search for it urself
to avoid making a duplicate thread

Why would this be? What properties does that nickel cover have that darkens the pickup tone? Or could it be psychological?

I did the same test and boy! Amen to that, i couldnt have writen a better article to say the same thing.

This is interesting. So this means that the hollow (nasal) poppy tone you get from LPs most of the time is due to the covered pups?

But there's one thing I don't buy about that article. The hum-cancelling thing about the covers. Why would the covers cancel the hum? If it's a humbucker, shouldn't the hum already be cancelled?

And also, since the covers apparently affect the tone, why not use non-conductive metals (like aluminium) for the covers?

The chrome/gold plated nickle covers affect the magnetic fields. A plastic cover, or some non-magnetic cover, wouldn't do much to the tone but the nickle does.
