This is why I asked Goose previously if bouqitue guys designed their own ICs and EEprommed them, or bought them off the shelf. There's a good change the boutique makers themselves might not even know what they're using, just that it sounds good. Maybe there's a NOR Gate there? or a NAND gate in there that makes a difference?
I dunno...
EVH himself has said he's never used a distortion pedal in his life.
he did mention that he used the MXR Dist + and the Boss SD-1 (yes, that humble cheap yellow pedal) to give his Marshalls/Peaveys more kick and saturation in the front end in a magazine interview i think..
heh, i got ebook on ic design, can pass you if you are interested. But unfortunately, it has nothing to do with effect nor sound and totally rocket science from geetar point of view.

Randolf also mentioned it in his gear 101 thread.
Wasn't EVH notorious for hiding his tone recipes?

i didnt survive beyond the first few pages of chapter 1. Haha, imho, geetarer rather be of doing music then to ponder bout ic design
EVH is a liar...we can debate about this the whole day!
Seriously man....he used to bullshit that his amps were modded.....and it turned out that his marshalls were actually stock......
I wouldnt use EVH to talk about tone...cos nobody really knows whether hes telling the truth. Like what Shredcow said...notorious for hiding his tonal secrets.
But how do we know that your source is correct either?![]()
