What pickups for the SRV tone

Thanks guys for all your replies.

Never knoew there were so many SRV fans around :)

I've always had a soft spot for his dirty tone. And i think majority of his tunes are in OD.

Another players which i think has his tone pretty close is Kenny Wayne Shephered. Good player. But i read that his pups are specially made for him.

Keep those comments coming!

Thanks!

Stevie wanted something more than just to play like Hendrix: He wanted to be Hendrix. For a Halloween gig at the Austin Rehearsal Complex in Austin, Stevie dressed up like Hendrix, wig, blackface, and all. At one point, Stevie told Austin's Joe Gracey that he had been taken over by the spirit of Hendrix - "literally." Stevie often wondered if he would die young, like Hendrix

 SRV is very funny. In one of the album it's mentioned that his wife witnessed him air guitaring while sleeping. And he confessed that he had dreams that Hendrix came to him and taught all the secret guitar licks. But when SRV woke up, he forget all those licks

What?! Serious? I wish SRV would come in my dream and teach me all his stuff. I would wake up a god the next day! Actually, I don't mind if both JH and SRV appear in my dream - titan jam. I would destroy anyone who woke me up.

damn, lazy to read all that.
all i read was from an interview with his tech rene martinez...
who said, the only mods ever done to SRV's guitar was to replace the white with black pickguard, and the pickups with texas specials.

Texas special was only born after SRV passed away. How could that be possible?

Texas specials were "born" when Fender engineers tried to recreate that FAT heavy clean tone that SRV had.... basically SRV had his 59 pick ups rewound & they overdid the rewinding process..
