The one I find best for me is actually a Pacifica Strat with rosewood fingerboard, though I wish they made the neck narrower. It suits a variety of styles. Ironically, the one I'm (ab)using is a solid body mahogany Les Paul-lookalike with a bigger butt, a Dean guitar. Real heavy (weight)...
Ooo...Intresting.....I never really liked Lps....Too bulky...Cant run around with em....haha....I'm also prone to accidents so Lps would be scratched at my hands
personally i dig the shape and the finish of my guitar. heh
and the way my sound is capable of cutting through the mix and not get lost in the mud of sound some times.
For my band's current style of music (which doesn't involve shredding), I'd prolly stick to the Fender line...prolly tele, strat, jazzmaster and my current fav, Jaguar  Okay, and maybe a Gretsch as well
my friend once had a fender customised strat..would fetch US$2K but its the best bang-for-buck guitar i'v evr played, well worth the money down to every cent if u were to buy it. And guess what it sounds awesome when one is playing Heavy Metal
