We should have a SOFT.com Jam fest

One thing doe Sat night allota "working" muso softies mite be BZ ....

I do advocate a mixed line up backing band and various other performers for an "across the board" variety program.

I do understand its all good intention and well meaning, but as stated before and happened before quite many times, talk is cheap.

Simply put, who is gonna come out with $300-$800 for venue rental, $400-$1,000 for equipment rental. And these budget are just for small scale gig. Such gigs are already happening, by many independent organisers every week of the year already. Thus I feel, no impact.

My opinion is that if you are busy on a Sat nite, you won't be free any other nites either.

Your idea is quite cool, sound like a TCS variety show, with a backing band and stuff for performers. Could be tried, even at the Marine Cove gigs, I see that possible. Marine Cove gigs are not fixed theme, and the main idea is to promote local musicians and also trying in it's little way to help the local music scene understanding. With very limited funding, we need as much goodwill resources and helpouts as possible.

Agains, those with ideas, (AND DON'T HAVE MONEY TO REALISE IT), see others who are currently having their programme. Try to propose it to them and integrate into their plans. Of course when you come out with idea, you must come out with your own time, efforts and resources. Those who are with your idea must also come and support and volunteer too.

In retrospective - things are better if we just concentrated on our own 'portfolios'.

Yup. Well, we are getting lazy and tired as well.

Honestly, while organising gigs is fun and all, it gets boring after a while. In addition, we have other stuff like the web-zine and the record label to concentrate on as well.

There are just enough gigs to go around these days lah. The young bands have to work smarter and not wait for things to happen. Gas Haus is quite happening eh?

Hey, at least the thread starter has decided to approach Anthony to do something about his ideas. Hopefully, he'll pull through with it. Well, the rest is just talk eh.

Look at it this way. No one was born a gig organiser or a guitarist. You have to work at it. Good luck, Giantballz!!! If those girls from RGS can do such a good job for Rock For Good, I reckon all of us will be able to, only if you try...

ok let me be the 1st to confirm my personal participation in this softjam thingy... Count me in 8)

Aiyo people, Dont put everything on poor James' shoulders la. There are so many bands who wanted to perform at this thingy. But 1st and foremost, need to form a SOFT Gig organising commitee! Can have different subcomms, including one on FUNDRAISING. Without $$$ hard to get things going la

:)

Don't let Mr SOFT see this hor...
hee..hee.. mingguan, thanks for your kind consideration. ya lor, me spent 30 mins going through the post to edit out the EXTRA quote.

Honestly, for SOFT to do it, should be quite ok. The question is, how will it actually benefit anyone?

maybe this might bring up upcoming bands and make pple realise local music is better then foreign ones...to do that we must alert the locals ferst..so this might be a good opputunity for local bands to show whut they got..so for future gigs, pple dun only look upon WGB,Ronin,Electrico,Suns,Strayvoice,Hamartia(compliments) but also to look upon other bands too..HeartRock Singapore has their own bands for gigs..I'm sure some bands here would love to represent soft for this..(no offence to heartrock)...

cheers!

Benefit would be for musos of all age, genres and expirience to come together for a massive jam. No other music forums have done this kinda thing before ,,,the 1st ever softjam fest.

Giantballz aare U serious? PM details what U have in mind.

Spread the gospel... 8)

Shredster....

My idea was Softjam band being made up of musos from diff bands...ppl not in any band for the tyme being can either slot in to softie resident band or appear as featured soloist?

Sounds good?

 8)

I originally live in India in a city called Hyderabad-some of u may know it as the city that invented biryani or briyani as it is called here...and well till date makes the worlds best biryani...well hmm that was a sidetrack already...

anyhoo i have been in the hyderabad music scene for a few years but then a lot of musicians went abroad to study..so in the summers when we get back we organise one mega gig..its called.."the Gathering"....30 musicians....there were all members of bands playing but the objective was that band members shld not play with each other...we had the first gathering last year it was a 3 hour show....in a pub....the crowd loved it....

how we organised it was...every musician lists all the songs he wants to do secretly to a common guy...and then common songs are marked out... then we add some crowd puller songs...( no i dont mean britney spears ..i mean like turn the page etc...hehe)

apart from that similar interest ppl group up...to decide a few songs...everyone plays a few songs...mix n match...it was amazing fun...but it required a HELLISH amount of co-ordination and a standing order for all musicians to LEAVE THEIR EGOS AT THE DOOR....hehe...but we pulled off the show after a lot of fights and quits....and it was the ebst show my city has ever seen....came on the front page of the newspaper 8)
..crowd was over a 1000....
hope this provided some idea of some sort....

some of the songs that were played:( i remember mine)

tornado of souls
dread and the fugitive mind
she wolf
raining blood
south of heaven
return to serenity
cowboys from hell
trooper
black
alive
even flow
angry chair(AIC)
Would(AIC)
back in black
highway to hell

there were a lot more songs...i was more involved in the metal section..

the 5 guys who organised the gig(including me) played more songs than others..typically each musician played 5-6 songs...

hehe...
