Its a 1963 Gibson SG Junior with a stock dog-ear P-90 pickup.

after that, request to try out different guitar with different pickup and see how big the different pickups will fare.

yeap, a humbucker would add more... higher output pickups will add more... using a POD, you can coax pretty much everything out of anything...

but i think the main thing is actually - does it sound good enough? I thought it did sound good. I'm sure one could do better metal with "metal" equipment but... man... that was raw!

Agree with Pathe.. That amp modelling package is the main thing behind all the insane tone... Some patches probably can give you the pretty tone with different guitars... This can be a curse or blessing, which in this case... it is. Plus the user probably needed sometime to get that tone right with all the tweaks.. I know I don't have to the patience to do so... Hehe... but I gotta agree the tone is sick man..

to me, the P-90 can pull off some heavy stuff if one watches the EQ. also, the distortion voicing matters.
