hey guys. im planning to grab one of these.

im looking for a simple unit to control my bass, mids and treble without too much coloration of my rig's tone.

something like what jono007's morning dew eq does

i've been looking at the

boss (PQ4)
ehx(Tube EQ)
barber (Barb EQ)

do you guys have any other suggestions and reviews?

cheers

heh, wont eq changed frequency, plus or minus it, from which ever signal that goes thru it. With bass mids treble control, its already 3 different frequencies range. If the eq doesnt colour tone or minimal colouration, then the eq prolly not working or that the working range is limited

imho

i'm using a simple, affordable one:

yeah i know bro. i think i used colouring in the wrong context here.

i tried a couple of graphic eqs which made my tone sound very processed? i dont know how to describe it. im hoping to find something that blends in with my rig nicely. just to bleed off some treble and pump a little mids in

not a major overhaul of my tone but more of minor fine tweaking

i prefer using the setup of knobs B,M,T rather then having to adjust multiple sliders too

im using an amp with a single volume control btw

get the dan electro fish and chips EQ
Some hear danelectro and have shivers down their spine and cringe, but I think the FnC EQ is good.

heh, ideally, a parallel blend pedal might help(with the para eq in the parallel loop). But thats adding another pedal with buffer in it that do the spllitting/blending and might/might not change the original sound.

seriously don't bother with parametric eqs. esp if you're using it for live performance. usually the FOH does the para EQ for you. just stick to the simple basic EQs and you'll be fine.

check out toneczar vfm, xotic x blender, barger concept vb jr. Those are the things that do parallel blending.

Locally, goose has his pan pedal which do the same thing as well.

something like what jono007's morning dew eq does

The Morning Dew is apparently a very high quality buffer/eq unit. No joke. It also costs a bomb.

If you find that many EQ units seem to be colouring your tone in an unacceptable/odd/un-natural way then... Maybe you don't need the EQ unit that much.

If your are getting an eq unit to mimick those records (cd,mp3) of your favorite bands ....please dont, as what you hear is pretty much processed.

A parametric eq is a quick fix in giving you the possibility to cut or boost in any frequency you'd like, without affecting any other frequencies.
The amplitude (volume) of each band can be controlled, and the center frequency can be shifted, and widened or narrowed.

btw...used to own a KORG peQ ..but hardly used it !!

try the catalinbread varioboost preamp...you can even shape the para eq to get a half cocked wah sound on it.
